Exact same thing happened to me at the exact same time. I looked at the logs and noticed it came from Quebec , CA. I also had 5000 + hours.

Wait what? Quebec?? The email I got when I changed my password was in French. Which they speak in Quebec. If this is happening on a large scale, then we can make a case out of it, bungie would have to respond.

We need to get these people together. Because right now, everyone is blaming us because "Bungie security is on us," but if this is happening to people across the game, then someone clearly found a backdoor and it's not on us. Maybe they could give us our characters back if it becomes a major issue. There is an expectation of account security that is present in the contract we agree to, so who knows.
