  • Got stuck, then got depressed because i was stuck, then took a break, which probably just made me worse off, then got a little unstuck, got stuck again, but now i think i might be somewhere ok.

  • Man, I feel that. My mental state is, like, directly tied to how well I'm doing with my writing. If my writing's doing well, I'm doing well, and if there's a problem with my writing, then there's a problem with me! The question is, which way does this go? Is it the problems with our writing that make us depressed, or us being depressed that cause a problem with our writing? I'd offer to assist when/if you get stuck again, but I don't want spoilers. :p

  • I think for me, it goes from depreshun to writing because being depressed affects more than one aspect of my life. But it does make this positive feedback loop where something triggers the depreshun (for me it's usually some sort of failure), then it's harder to force myself to practice the things i need to do (like writing or exercise or even homework), and since it's much harder to practice, i get more depressed because i start failing in those things too. To break the cycle, i usually need a catalyst of hope, just like there's a catalyst of despiar. And once i get that tiny little spark of hope, i decide to not be depressed. Because depreshun is a choice; i keep myself in that state because it's easier and it makes the most sense at the time. Once i stop making that choice, and follow through with the decision by doing the things i stopping doing while depwess, i feel a whole lot better. I don't know if it's the same for you, but that's what happens to me.

  • I think for me it’s the opposite. I’ll usually hit a rough spot in my writing, and then turn all whiny like “UGH, I’m not a good writer after all! And if I’m not a good writer, I’m not a good anything! WAH!”. Ah, I can be quite whiny. :p
