Reminder: just because you can roll IRL does not mean you can roll and break barrels.

Definitely in my top 3 game series of all time. I play them so often that I've played a good majority of the overhaul mods as well. Convergence has probably been my favorite so far

Edited by Sausage: 1/17/2022 8:19:06 AMMy favorites. Bloodborne has been my favorite game for years. I just got the platinum for Sekiro though and I gotta say, it came close to finally topping Bloodborne. I know Sekiro is not a soulsborne game but idgaf lol. Some advice for anyone thinking of playing Sekiro. If you try to play it like it's a souls game, you are gonna get demolished. Sekiro may be a ''souls-like'' game but it is definitely NOT a souls game.

I love them. Looking forward to Elden Ring. If you haven't played Remnant: From the Ashes, and enjoy the Souls/Borne games, I recommend checking that one out. It's pretty cool.

Bloodborne. >__>
I'm happy I decided to play DS3 when I did. Having no difficulty settings really make accomplishments like beating bosses feel real and earned. Deserved. And the music MMMMMMMMMMMMMM Epilogue and basically any song from the Old Hunters DLC are my top favorites of the series (from what I've played).

New Flamelurker theme slaps, I looked it up
4 RepliesIt *seems* really good. I’m just not good at those games and don’t find them too fun.

3 RepliesThey're one of those games that I'm good at and find the game itself to be ok. But don't really enjoy playing the game. After Dark Souls 3 I decided to retire from soulsborne style games... It hasn't really worked out.

I enjoy them, and while I'm really glad they spawned a genre and pushed gaming forward, I feel like very few so called Souls-like games ever actually managed to mimic what makes them so special. Actual Souls games don't pride themselves on being difficult. Yet, Souls-like games will litter their trailers and marketing with phrases like "Punishing combat!". What makes Souls games so satisfying isn't just beating a boss that can kill you in one or two hits. Its how well they executed the feeling of trial & error, learning attack patterns, experimenting with items and skills, runs you sacrifice for the sake of "Okay, what happens if I do this?".

Nothing else satisfies anymore

I like them. Despite their reputation for “brutal difficulty”, they really aren’t as hard as they’re made out to be, and the difficulty they do have is really well scaled. It always feels tough, but not unbeatable (most of the time anyway). Indirect storytelling is still one of the best methods of storytelling imo, and all four games are brilliant. As Psy said, though, the Souls-like genre is pretty rubbish. The copycat games very rarely seem to understand what actually made the Soulsborne games fun. And on that note, dear video game industry, please stop putting the “drop all your money where you died” mechanic in games where it doesn’t belong. Thank you.
