Welcome to the Land of Danar (I suck at names, somebody give me a better name pls, i beg of you). Anyway, this shall be the designated sign-up page, which I'm sure the oldies are quite familiar with.
For all of you new guys: the basic gist of story sign-ups is you get to create a character that I will be using in my story. Every week, a new page/chapter/part/what have you will come out (unless this crashes and burns in a dumpster fire), and you guys can follow along, watching the story unfold. It's a bit of an old tradition that we used to do, and I always thought it was a lotta fun, even if these stories rarely ever got finished, and most barely started.
Some key details about your character are:
personality
race/appearance
occupation (yes hobos count as an occupation)
gear/weapons (if any)
basic backstory (optional)
Those are kinda the basic traits that I need, but if there's anything else that I need to know, throw it in there. Also, if you couldn't tell be the intro, humans are quite rare in the world that I am creating, so I'd like you guys to get creative with the races. You can create your own races, and if you do, I'd like some details about your race's particular traits. You can make a human, if you really want to, but they are a rare species and I'm not sure how I can fit in a bunch of them at once. As the characters come in, I will start solidifying the basic series events floating around in my head, and will approve each character as necessary. I may ask you to adjust your character just a little bit if it doesn't quite fit with the story, but I'm pretty lenient with these kinds of things. Eventually, I'll close the sign-ups, but, until then, it'll be open for a few days. Have fun with it!
And a bit of a sidenote: I'm not the best writer in the world, so I could use all the criticism I can get. And if you're going to criticize, don't be afraid to be mean; I've been a diqhead plenty of times on this forum, so my self-esteem can take a few hits and I'll be better off. Thank you!
2 RepliesMarilyn Dagon Race: Fish Person Appearance: Humanoid, but with light blue skin, and yellow eyes, and a tail. Lining the side of her forearms, back of her calves, and both sides of her tail are small yellow fins. And of course, she has gills on her chest, but they’re underneath clothing. On that note, she cannot wear tight shirts, because she needs water to flow through her gills when swimming. Race notes: While she can breathe in air, it’s harder for her, so things that make it hard to breathe (like smoke) affect her twice as much. While not wholly cold blooded, she’s unable to maintain body heat as well as mammals, so she’s especially vulnerable to the cold. However she can breathe underwater indefinitely, and her scales make for a natural armor. Occupation/backstory: She’s always been able to hear the souls of the dead, and has taken pity on those unable to pass on. Capitalizing on this, a (god of the dead/powerful mage/theme appropriate entity) gave her a magic lantern. Using this lantern, she guides lost souls to the afterlife. Mostly her efforts are focused underwater, but not entirely. Gear: She voids fighting when she can, but shoukd she wind up in a scuffle, her lantern doubles as a powerful weapon. With it, she can summon aspects of those she’s helped move on, using their skills & abilities to help her in combat. Note, she doesn’t summon their actual souls, just look-a-likes. (ex: she helps a knight move on, she can summon him to use his sword. What souls she starts with are up to you) I want to say she can use her lantern to summon spirits of the recently departed, so she can, for example, interrogate the dead, but it may be too op if they ever need to solve a murder or something. Personality: Spending so much time with the dead, she’s come to accept the inevitability of death. She can come off as rather grim, as she’squick to bring up our ultimate fate in a conversation, and doesn’t seem to upset when witnessing someone’s passing. However, she’s also kind, and compassionate, always willing to help someone in need. Whether they’re her mortal enemy, or best friend, she always tries to assist in a soul’s passing.
