Idk, you're not giving much to work with Maybe throw in a bit of travel and downtime? Pass through a village, camp out in the woods, endure a storm, wrestle a bear, beach episode, something like that.

 • I’m hesitant to say too much on a public forum—possibility of getting stolen & whatnot—but what kind of details do you think you’d need? I could probably elaborate a little bit. As for the travel suggestion, I did do that a little bit already, but I felt like the protag was too willing to just jump onboard and start traveling with these guys, even if they did just save her. So, I guess what I need is something before they start traveling—which is why it’s hard to come up with anything. I hadn’t accounted much for before the adventure in my outline.

 • Well your main thing was wanting to introduce the characters a bit more, which could be done via travel/downtime Don't really know what else to suggest outside of... flashbacks... bleh. Although, that could work with tales around a campfire, which would then allow you to also introduce the tale of the magic city?

 • Oh, definitely no flashbacks. I purposefully left their backstories vague, beyond the basics. Big reveals later & stuff. That said, some travel before she says “let’s go to the magic city” could work. I just don’t know where they’d be traveling to, as her saying that is what prompts them to leave. Something about fleeing the assassin, probably, but I don’t know where they’d be trying to go. Where do people usually go when fleeing assassins? >.>

 • In most stories they either go somewhere out of sight and mind or get lost in a crowd, which of course never works
