Space Jump in Super Metroid.
Double jump? Try infinite jump.

Heheheh, I remember that thing. I’m not sure whether I prefer whether Metroidvanias give you an “ultimate jump” at the end or not, but man does it always feel awesome when they do! I should really replay Super Metroid one of these days. To date it still has the best side scroller gun aiming system imo.

I was more referring to the RB to aim up, LB to aim down. Twin stick is arguably better, of course, but I prefer the bumper aiming because it let you keep your hands on the buttons.

I think most modern games would move firing to the trigger or bumper.

Yeah, it’s usually twin stick with firing being the trigger—at least, in the games I’ve played. And it’s fine, it works. I still like Super Metroid’s better, though. It just felt really natural, but to me at least twin stick only feels natural in a top down game.

I haven't played a side scroller since Sonic Mania and before that i think it was Littlebig Planet 3 back when it released.

Sonic Mania was really good. I wish it had more unique levels rather than repurposed old ones, though. It was pretty creative with its old zones, of course, which was a nice surprise. At least it didn’t just copy & paste them in. Unfortunately I’ve never played Little Big Planet. I’ve never had a Playstation until 4, and I heard all the good ones were on 3. I play 2D platformers quite frequently, though I actually haven’t been playing that many lately. Though, I did just pick up the Castlevania Advance Collection, and have been getting back into Ender Lilies lately, after learning they added a boss rush. If you’re ever in the mood for a new side scroller, I highly recommend Ender Lilies. It’s probably my 4th favorite game of all time—absolutely brilliant all the way through!
