IMO timeskip endings kind of rely on the quality of storytelling leading up to it. It can either leave a worse last impression on a bad anime, or it can further satisfy an already good story. Bad example: Franxx Why:
the final leg of the show’s storytelling was no where as good as the beginning of the the show. Random plot points, cliffhanger, sudden changes in storytelling theme were some of the big problems to me.
Good example: FMA: Brotherhood Why:
everything leading up to the skip was done well and few unanswered plot points. All the characters had their arcs complete by the time of the timeskip.
• I dunno what you're talking about with DitFXX or where you're getting this, but...
the show ended with a wedding. Just like Gurren Lagann. There was no time skip
Might wanna rewatch that again buddy.

 •
Yeah there was a wedding, but entire final battle was a consistent time skip.
• The anime ended with a final battle. The manga ending with a wedding sounds familiar.

 •
Fan ending?

I mean, the anime ended with 02 and Hiro getting reincarnated many years after they left earth. Either I’m that stupid or you’re gaslighting me.
• I dunno, it sounds like this isn’t really an opinion on a timeskip, but rather “bad buildup leads to bad ending”, which will usually be true regardless of a timeskip. :p Though on the note of Fullmetal, I’m glad its actual ending was good, because that final battle was soo stupid. Almost ruined the show.

 • I was actually just talking about it with Odin, so I’ll copy & paste what I didn’t like about it from there;
It feels really out of touch with the rest of the show. Like, they decided to rip an enemy out of Dragon Ball or something. I’ve had my complaints with Fullmetal’s villains (particularly their regen), but their powers felt very grounded in the world, and the characters had to get creative when fighting them. Then we get this dude with laser beams and magic forcefields, and their strategy to win is just “hit him really hard”. Now, yes, the bit with Ed getting his arm back was great, and they did get clever near the end with absorbing Greed, but that’s the only good part in the fight. Everything else was a little much. On top of that, Father’s motives were so boring. The intrigue and mystery of what was going on in Amestres, learning about the fifth laboratory, the humunculi, the transmutation circle, it was all brilliant! But we’re left with this burning question of what Father actually wants, and what is his goal? “I want to become God!”. That’s it. That’s his whole motivation. So boring! And the shadow of the moon used as a transmutation circle? Really? C’mon, that’s dumb! And then the counter circle Ed was building, I thought it was so cool, but then its actual function turned out to be so lame. THAT’s the circle that should have returned everyone’s souls.
• Yeah. Not quite as bad as Una-Vaatu at least, and it wasn’t enough to ruin the show like COURAGE PAAAAAAWNCH was. So, could be worse. I had my eyebrow raised the whole time while watching that fight though.
That’s a funny way of spelling “Flip Flappers”!
