I’m not sure… what’s an example of a popular one that’s been done really well?
Other than real life stories. With those I can see the value of skipping to the end and bringing everything to the present.

Well, my taste in movies & such probably differs a bit from yours, but a few come to mind; Steven Universe Future ended with a small timeskip that wasn’t bad. From what I remember, I believe Onward had a small timeskip as well. I can’t remember if Frozen did, or if that happened immediately, but I remember liking both of their endings. And the other day I just finished watching Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, which used a timeskip well. You’ll probably need to refer to LahDsai’s reply, though, as you don’t seem the type to have watched those. :p
