Should weapon range be made uniform with separate tuning in mind?

Good idea

I'm sure the title is pretty self-explanatory as to what I mean but if not I'll explain. Let's say we have one 600 auto with 50 range that can shoot up to 26 meters and another 600 auto rifle with a higher range stat that can shoot up to 29-30 meters because it can easily get 70 range. The one with more range is going to have a greater competitive pvp advantage while still having a noticable difference in pve (to a lesser degree). This makes the auto with either a higher base range or maximum range more valuable to acquire and use. So you are less likely to acquire these lesser ranged options. But let's say, like handcannons, having 70 range or 50 range offers the same exact effective range. This, unfortunately, devalues scaling into higher ranged tiers, but it also gives the lesser ranged handcannon a chance to be used due to the range being near identical if not identical. And once the effective range becomes uniform, this gives them room to fine tune weapon effective ranges so that weapons can't creep beyond their intended range, while keeping weapons with a lower stat more relevant (arc logic vs gnawing hunger). I don't know what they could do with the range stat to still make it a valuable stat to spec into (besides the hidden accuracy improvements it brings) but I feel like the impact it has on the game can greatly devalue a good chunk of the weapons currently in the game. I don't know if it's a good idea and I don't know what long term effects it could have on the game. Range as a stat currently generates value for weapons and slowly but surely creates desire for weapons that can either break the past limit or match it. I wouldn't want to harm that. Let me know what you guys think.

  • Honestly they should just remove the stat altogether and call it Accuracy (or something). Every weapon archetype would have a fixed damage drop off point. Stability, Handling and Reload would operate as usual.
