Gonna start with the big thing: Destiny is not going Free to Play. Bungie is giving out Years One and Two of Destiny 2 for free. You will still have to buy anything they release in the future. You will have to give them more money if you want to stay relevant and 'appreciated'. As for the rest of it, You /Could/ put all of your current character's gear in the Vault, make a new character of the same class, delete the old one and work your way back up to your previous stopping point. But Honestly, I wouldn't waste your time doing that unless you have friends who you want to play side-by-side with. It's not worth the hassel when you realize that you'll be having to unlock all of the little things (Forges and the like) for your characters individually. If I could tell you to run, and have you listen, I would. But BUNGiE is about to suck up a whole bunch of unsuspecting steam users who think they're in for a treat.

 •
Bungie is giving out Years One and Two of Destiny 2 for free.
I believe its just Vanilla D2, Curse and Warmind for free. Forsaken is still going to be sold, probably with the annual pass included.

 • First of all, I consider the current model they are going for to be Free to Play Second, that last paragraph confused me. Run?

 • Well, you can 'consider' it to be Free to Play until the cows come home just like I can consider buying Halo through Origin. Doesn't change what is or isnt the case. But allow me to explain what the issue is. Going Free to Play would mean that you would not have to pay to play the new content in Destiny 2 and that any money you put in the game would be an optional purchase for in-game items/services. Otherwise, you will have to Buy new expansions to play the new content, making it a Buy to Play experience as it always has been. Secondly: I'm advising you not to get sucked back in, because outside of the fleeting moments you get to enjoy Forsake for the first time, Destiny 2's quality has not improved and, general consensus* is that the game is in decline. *- Any reviews left on the game, critics and gamers alike.

 • Destiny 2 is becoming Free To Play You will be able to download the game and enjoy it with all of it's features and modes and more just like someone who paid for it back at laucnh. DLC/Content of year 2 and onward is not included but they aren't tied to the base game so it doesn't count.

 • Let me run this by everyone who checks this subthread out. There are a few, what we refer to as, marketing modles in Gaming. Subscription Based: Where, in order to play, you pay a Xthly upkeep charge for the service. Buy-to-Play: where You purchase a product, play it without additional service charges and purchase additional content seperately. Free to play: Where you don't pay to play at any point, and purchases are made for in game items/currency/or services. For instance: Warframe is free to play, where as ESO is buy to play and Final Fantasy 14 is Subscription based. Destiny 2 wi still charge you for future content updates and is, therefore, still a buy to play game.

 • Umm no. Was the revelry, the dawning, arc week, iron banner, season weapons etc content people had to pay for? Nope. Look at thr roadmap for 2019 and you could see how destiny 2 is going to be truly free to play going into further seasons.

 • Looking at that pretty $39.99 price tag on Shadowkeep and the even bigger one on ShadowKeep +Season Pass on steam. Looks like, in order to Play Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, I'll have to buy it. Annnnnnnnd that means that Destiny 2 will not be free to play unless the whole of the endgame is available and accessible to players who didn't pony up for Shadowkeep. Annnnd until that's confirmed, it's Buy to Play.

 • $34.99 actually, as from the steam page. Destiny 2: Shadow Keep is DLC/Expansion This is what new players are getting besides the already included D2 Y1 DLC,
Free roam on all destinations (including the Moon coming in the Shadowkeep expansion) Strikes playlists Crucible playlists Gambit and Gambit Prime playlists Select Annual Pass content
You wanna play the explosion then you only pay for the expansion, you dont have to pay for the base game like you would have before.

 • Will I, a person not purchasing Shadowkeep, be able to: Obtain a relevent power level to Shadowkeep's Endgame and be able to complete Destiny 2's new endgame in Shadowkeep? If 'Yes' Then I will condece the point. But if I have to Purchase Shadowkeep in order to be a relevent level and compete without disadvantages in PVP content with level advantages then it is not an Optional purchase for my continued investment in D2 and the game is still Buy to Play.

 • I believe they said if you buy shadow keep then they bring you up to the most current light so you wont have to grind all the way just to play with your friends. These free seasonal updates that occurred during the annual passed allowed for non annual pass holders to level up in power. It's safe to assume you will be able to increase your power without having to purchase shadowkeep.

 • I'll believe it when I see Steam Reveiws not shitting on the game for being a scummy cashgrab that doesn't respect players time and effort.

 • Ok what a way to turn the topic of conversation. Atm I think the game is in a great place especially for content buyers. I can get two guarantee powerful weapons every week from ada (my choosing) Or two guarantee powerful weapons/armor (of my choosing) from the menagerie. I can grind those, I can do raids, I can do strikes crucible or gambit, I can do hidden quest, dungeon, missions. The game has a lot to offer currently and does respect the players played time. Yeah many changes can and have to be made but this just seem like you're trying to make a usless rant in someone else's post for no reason.

 • Not turning the topic I'll believe that Destiny 2 is truly free to play when I see it, and I'll know it when I see a 'Mostly Positive' steam review set.
Atm I think the game is in a great place especially for content buyers.
You might, and the remaining ~10% of launch players might also agree, but let me remind you that the game has yet to get a postivie review aggregate over on Metacritic from the Critics or the Public. The game has been on the road downhill since Forsaken and BUNGiE has shown that, now that Activision isn't part of the picture, they want to drive even harder for the Eververse. The game isn't in a good state. The community is as dead as ever, with the only posts these days being hateposts on the current OpOp things and reminders that Enhancement Cores need to go. Frankly, as soon as Steam Gamers hear that Day One Destiny Players put $220+ Dollars in to D2 for Shadowkeep and have nothing to show for it now that the game's being given away for free, they're gonna know some shady shit is up. Curators were already trying to ward people off the game the day the Steam listing showed up. In fact, "Content Buyers" are about yo get shafted for buying all thi 'content' and, unless Bunghole announces something in the future, the only thing they'll have to show for it is a sign that says 'I spent $180+ ($220 if they bought Shadowkeep) Dollars just for this game to go free and all I got was this stupid Triumph.'

 •
Not turning the topic I'll believe that Destiny 2 is truly free to play when I see it, and I'll know it when I see a 'Mostly Positive' steam review set.
Not every free to play game is positive, in fact many f2p games end up becoming filled with mixed reviews to disliked later on in it's life, and you can tell by steam reviews. What your opinion on the game and what to come is solely and opinion and won't changed the fact that Destiny 2 (not Destiny Forsaken, Not Destiny Shadowkeep) is going to be free to play.
You might, and the remaining ~10% of launch players might also agree, but let me remind you that the game has yet to get a postivie review aggregate over on Metacritic from the Critics or the Public.
Ok 10% what is the data to back that up besides a few people in the forums? Just yesterday there were over 1.5M people playing PVP and PVP content based off this Tracker https://destinytracker.com If the game was still down hill as it was last season then I would have agreed. also what Meta critic review? The 33 reviews from across all platforms?
The game isn't in a good state. The community is as dead as ever, with the only posts these days being hateposts on the current OpOp things and reminders that Enhancement Cores need to go.
I already explained how how the game is in a good state, in fact it needs to continue to be this way and better. The fact that we can farm for what we want is a huge plus and It's been like that since Black Armory (for certain activity and rewards though) Again the numbers don't like, game is no where near dead. EC should not be a problem with 3 bounties a day, with just one character that is 21 cores a week, it takes 2 cores for infusion and 16 cores in total to infuse all weapons and armor once (not even taking into account that there is no cost when infusing the same weapon or an exotic into a legendary). Now we have 5 cores left, if you did this on all characters then you would have 15 left. Buy some from spider, dismantle gear for some and use consumable that drops one and you will see it's not a problem at all. The money I put into the game and got out of return was "823h 27m" of playtime. I have played Destiny and really only Destiny (besides spiderman and God Of War) which means in the long run I have saved more money playing Destiny and Destiny 2 then buying a bunch of $60 dollar games on release. This isn't just my experience and Im sure others have to. You aren't entitled nor is anyone else entitled to more when they chose to purchase said content, You can't lose your shit over a game you bought almost two years ago.
