Is it intended that landing the first melee penalizes you?
I've noticed over the past year that every time I melee first I get meleed back and die. It doesn't matter what the other person is running - hunter, titan or warlock... without incoming melee damage perks or melee enhancing armor. If I land the first melee... they spin around and return a melee... I fall over dead... every single time.
I've posted about this several times and there has been 0 response from Bungie. If I include a picture of a cake with Destiny on it maybe they'll take notice??????????????

28 RepliesSo they outplayed you. Cool?

24 RepliesThank you for taking the time to post this. I will let the team know there is possibly an issue. If you have any videos of this happening, please post them as it helps us investigate these issues.

1 ReplyI've noticed this too (mainly on titans). Usually, when I go for a shotgun melee on a blade dancer, it's as though I aim straight for a wall.
-
Then maybe shoot them instead? I have the same happen to me and its annoying but I have to remind myself shoot your freaking gun at them, lol

Bump!

Ghost kills for days, always trading kills with other people.

So I looked at all your characters and your hunter and warlock don't have raining blows the Melee perk. Maybe they can spam faster or they have a melee charge. I know some of the titan melees can one shot over time.

1 ReplyOh what is this a warlock nerf -blam!- off
-
1 ReplyDid you go into the settings and set the melee to one hit kill?

4 RepliesThis is Destiny made my Activision Bungie. Were you expecting anything to work right?

While we are at it.. if i throw my throwing knife and i hear the animation of it hitting someone it should do damage. If you play gunslinger (rare that anyone does, because bungie has no clue about subclass balance) you know that you have threw one right before you die, you hear the animation of it hitting them, and it does nothing. You respawn and its gone as well.

1 ReplySounds like you ran into players with a stacked melee build. Maxed out melee = higher chance for 1 hit kill. Happens to me a lot too, but that's because I like to rush other players. Try staying back just a little bit and use a shotty and you won't be as salty...

9 Repliesmeleeing first without previous panic is called panicing...not out playing theme

I've never experienced this and have yet to meet anyone else that has either.

Bro don't listen to these noobs talking about the game like they know something. You never got outplayed or never outplayed anyone. You get a charged melee and a base melee. The charged melee is supposed to have the ability with it. Such as he extended range and damage along with whatever you have on your perk tree. You activating that melee takes longer than the base melee. Sir D talks about his voidwalker set up in a video. He runs low strength because he got stuck in situations as yourself. You can totally outplay someone but because they don't have their melee charge, they melee quicker than you. Even if you have snap discharge and they don't, they'll win the engagement because your ability melee takes so long. Ignore these trolls they're just casuals trying to act smart.

2 RepliesI've had more of an issue with my melee's not even registering let alone mine actually dealing damage.
-
Bloom on melees 😂. You got to pace your punches lmao. Nah I do see problems from time to time. I don't melee often though.
-
5 RepliesHappens all the time... Even with full charge I can never one hit kill someone with my melee, but lots of other people seem to be able to do it to me.
-
18 RepliesIve done tons of matches with melee/abilities/sword only. I have never seen a penalty for landing the first hit. Sometimes the other person will 1hk you with a shotgun before you can get your second hit in though. Blade dancer with backstab will 1 hit kill you if they get you from behind but from the front they cannot one hit kill you unless you are already damaged. If your gauntlets have grenade throw distance instead of increased melee attack speed then maybe thats giving your opponent the edge and your actually getting hit twice before you can land the second hit. Otherwise maybe your already damaged or you have your toughness set low.

1 ReplyUnless I'm running a stormbringer/voidwalker warlock, Melee feels incredibly unreliable. Hunters seem to get the real short-end of the stick here. I'm all for a buff or balance of some type here
-
Never had a problem with it, and you can't be one hit from melee unless your shield is down. You're probably getting hit twice and just don't realize it, either due to lag or not having the enemy in your field of view.
-
Titan sunbreaker melee has been a problem for over a year it doesnt register and bungie have done little about it.
-
I've noticed this when I get the first melee in but brushed it off thinking I probably didn't have full health/shield or someone else was causing my damage as well. I do think it might be an issue? Best to get video evidence.

This ruined a 15 kill streak unbroken for me on my Titan, I hit this guy once and hit him again and then nothing happened. -blam!-in Titan Trex arms..
-
1 ReplyHitting you with primary and then meleeing is faster than meleeing twice. This is what is happening. You're taking some damage elsewhere then getting killed with the follow up.

I remember in year one if I melee'd while running it'd kill people in one hit sometimes, you have two hit boxed, one in front and one in the back, maybe the punch is clipping and hitting both hitboxes, I remember clipping was the culprit of "face backstabs" for the ohko perk for bladedancers. Or maybe there is latency that causes the hit to register twice, I'm no expert but thats my two cents. This is, of course, assuming its only melee and not some other factor as others have suggested.
