I've always thought that patrols should have been more dynamic. Touching down on a planet and hearing ghost say "reports of fallen snipers near patrol beacons" but in the end there never is, I've never taken a sniper round while pulling a beacon, nor do I feel like I'm on patrol as my actions in the area have no consequence.
I personally think rushing though a group of fallen into a another area should be difficult, imagine going from one area to another and having the fallen call in pikes and have them chase you down, into the next area only to have the next area be even more populated with fallen that are trying to take you down.
Feeling like a hunter or the hunted would be way more satisfying experience, finding treasure chests shouldn't just be a matter of going from one empty cave to another, rather it should be something you have to be clever enough to spot, for example, imagine seeing a concentration of enemies in one area patrolling one cave, you dispatch the guards and move in only to find higher end enemies guarding a treasure chest.
As it is now we have this large open area to explore and pockets of enemies that don't honestly care what you do, but rather take pot shots at you and couldn't honestly care what you do. When i first arrived on Mars I thought moving around it would be difficult as the cabal in the first mission advance on your position aggressively, a tactic that they never employ again. instead its a different map with different skinned enemies that react to you in the same way. how did they keep guardians out of the exclusion zone!? I'm flying around it on my sparrow and knocking them into walls!
How amazing would it be if your on Mars and you run into a group of Cabal escorting a tank to fortify a location you just cleared out, and your forced to fight them, or maybe you could set a trap for them with you fireteam? Making the world feel more alive rather than a series of small groups of enemies in one location.
In short, I guess what I'm asking for in Destiny 2 is:
1. smarter AI that flank and make tactical decisions and actually pose a threat.
2. patrols where my choices have an impact on my surroundings and where I can feel like either the hunter or the hunted, or as DeeJ calls it "an ever-evolving world".
3. more emphasis on being smart enough to notice subtle changes in how the enemies think and move and less routine "go here check this cave, now go here and check this cave. oh look spin metal, now go here and check this cave.
I apologies if I've posted this in the wrong area, I just want to know other peoples thoughts on the matter.

I wish they would use Patrol for Faction Wars. Using a GTA stlye territory holding areas with patrol points. Have a score board showing results in the Tower. Starts on Weekly Reset.
-
1 ReplyExpand it, add secrets, and world bosses.
-
I wish they would do it kind of like the gang wars in GTA san Andreas where you can take over areas by clearing out tons and tons of enemies. But then those same areas can be attacked and possible lost again. Would make the idea of "patrol" a lot more interesting
-
mindless rep farming is a thing of beauty. If I wanted to have challenging game play, I would play a different game,or play PVP.
-
6 RepliesYea I support this. While you're at it, a touch of weather would be nice like a sandstorm in Mars, rainy or foggy in Venus, a snowstorm in that one Planet I can't remember. A more challenging patrol

7 RepliesPatrols could be awesome. The most intense PvE experience available to us now is the "enemy moves against each other" event. Imagine a much larger patrol map. Mostly empty plains, and you roll up to a ridge and see hive battling fallen on a huge scale. Do you enter the fight or skirt around? Fallen walkers drop out of the sky, ogres fall from tomb ships, clear the battlefield with a fire team and reap real rewards, not a blue engram and some spinmetal. The "mysterious" signal bounty could instead be a trigger for a "fallen mass at outpost X for attack" and you have to speed over on your sparrow to defend. Fail and the patrol area becomes all yellows until you can take back the outpost. There are huge possibilities with patrol.

1 ReplyThey should let Bethesda make patrols, so we can wander for hours.

I want the patrol to be the center part of destiny 2. (for sake of locations we will use destiny locations but im positive destiny 2 will hold different locations and planets). I pick my titan and spawn into the tower first (orbit is completely removed). I want to get to some action? There is a teleporter that leads down to a safe zone right ouside of the walls. Here there is just a few select things to find. A few guardians protecting the entrance, a map showing any explored area (in destiny 2 i hope patrols will be much larger maybe double or even triple the size currently a map would make sense then). And teleporters that lead to other safe zones on different planets. When you leave the safe zone you enter a basically reclaimed area. The becons there will show patrols that just require you to kill adds or collect a certain thing from a certain enemy type. Going to the next zone will bring you to a danger zone. Here you find more fortified enemies. Since we didn't teleport to a different planet we are still on earth, so here in this next area called the danger zone you find large groups of adds and some captains. Skiffs come regularly to drop adds off, about 25 to 40% of the adds will be elites with yellow health bars. The patrols in this area will be hunting a certain target, the goal is to reclaim this area as well, so taking the leadership away will help scatter the fallen. This danger zone will be maybe 1/3 of the patrol area. The reclaimed area only covers about 1/6 of the map. This leaves around 50% of the map to the dark zone. Going from the danger zone to the dark zone will be a struggle, you remember the first fallen boss you killed in the second mission? There will be one of them gaurding the entrance to the next area, and with him comes a army of adds. You must clear these adds and boss to progress. Once they die though they respawn in 10-20 mins, just so if you wanna go back within 5 or 10 mins you can simply run through. There will be a list of these bosses, they can be simple fallen command, or they can be as dangerous as the fallen bosses in CoE. (of course with much less machinics as not everyone will be in a team of 3. But some simple machinics will be in play here like needing to kill a certain target to deal damage, or needing to grab a relic to regen health, simple things. Once past here you will find adds above your level at ALL TIMES. Not by to much, but enough to give you some struggle and make you think before running past a squad of vandals with snipers. The patrols in this area will sometimes contain VIP targets but will mostly have you scanning things around the map. The reason you go into this zone is for these on going events though. Think of public events, but times 80. Every 12 hours a certain boss will spawn, this will be a raid like boss and will have his own gear set, (you will have a 90% chance to get something you don't have currently) There will be multiples of these bosses with there own gear set. ( when i say gear i mean a full set of weapons full set of armor for EACH class and a exotic weapon). Lets ssay for the fallen there will be 3 of these bosses. That means 3 different set of weapons, 9 pairs of armor and 3 exotic weapons ALL WITH A COMPLETE DIFFERENT LOOK, NO DUPLICATE RESKIN BS. There will also be on going events that reset every tuesday. These events can be things like defending the wall, lets say i go to this event on tuesday. Fallen have just started dropping from skiffs, they come in light waves for a day or 2, then from there on it picks up. If more gaurdians show up, the farther away we push them from the wall, if no gaurdians participate, well the harder it will become. If i bring a fireteam to this event, we could have one of those planetside 2 wars going on but it would be a PvE style. ( if you never played planetside 2 it is basically a huge open map with 3 different teams, and most fights show up, when a team has a base near another, these fights can last for hours, not joking i was in a war for 2 hours before we pushed the enemies back and took the base.) Anyways it would be a huge battle going on constantly, they could add a faction in the tower that rewards some sweet gear and that you can rank up, he would have certain exotics only avialble from doing this activity, sweet shaders and gear, basically some of the ebst stuff you can get, because well, your defending THE LAST CITY ON EARTH!!! And for the activities like NF, or dailies you can have a personal map, near the top left or right corner, doesn't really matter where, will have all of them listed. Now think of all that stuff on earth i just listed, but on mars, the moon, venus, maybe the dreadnought, and any new location. That would be a game more addicting than destiny has ever been ( and i used to play destiny every single day after school for at least 3 to 4 hours)

I really liked in HoW when the wolves would show up on patrols. I also think tanks and other bosses should drop like fallen walkers do. You get this to an extent with the Taken, so that's cool, but I still found the Wolf packs to be more exciting.

Do this as heroic patrols. Level 40 with everything listed. Only because if I have to farm spin metal or something I don't want to be running from pikes.
-
Yeah I think ODST was a bit more dynamic. They could use a heat system as well similar to games like gta. Also needs more random events and a larger scale maybe make maps more on the scale of what eso did. But in patrol you should never quite feel safe, and never know what you'll run into next. Also need to give Destiny a warthog.
-
Something that might be cool would be to do patrols AC style, where doing patrols could slowly "liberate" an area, maybe allowing for loot, glimmer, etc. And as time goes on, enemies will slowly retake the area, so if you have a questline that involves patrols in certain areas, you could still do the quest
-
There should be some kind of game mechanic of taking and holding territory. Even it is just local to your account, but better in a true MMO persistent world. "We've cleared Skywatch, the fallen are planning a counter attack tomorrow at 7pm, stand and fight guardian!"
-
Edited by Sentinel: 5/21/2016 1:14:14 PMHave zones, the higher you go, the more difficult the enemies, the more frequent legendary and exotic drops. Have Safe Zones, and if you die outside of it you lose all engrams you got while patroling. More Ultra Knights, random boss encounter, imagine how great a hive dungeon on the moon would be? 3 RepliesThey should make patrols like darkzone or the wilderness. Would make the game 10x more fun.
-
Yea, and there should be areas that are super challenging.
-
5 RepliesGreat ideas! I personally want way more interaction in PvE with my faction. "Together we will rise!"
-
4 Replieswont and cannot happen since is shared worlds.. would make it too hard on the newer players if it ramped up too much just because a higher level player came in. it has to remain static so everyone has fair chance even the lower players without having to have a higher player with them just to play the game.
-
Good ideas. Patrol certainly need a bump to make it relevant again.
-
I don't think there is a single destiny player that hasn't thought this. Honestly the whole game just needs more depth, yeah there's a lot to do but it's all quite shallow. The game needs depth that's just the truth.
-
4 Repliessome things I'd like to see -6 man patrol (or more) fireteams -decent vehicle(s) that holds at least a 3 man fireteam -all past DLC public events happening at more frequent intervals (overlapping most likely) -more variety in bounties (What is wrong with having some of the old bounties still in the mix????) while at it, why can't we pick up bounties from a menu while out-n-about??? App/bungie.net function??? we can turn them in, let us pick them up instead of extra trips to/from bounty bot
-
3 RepliesWhat is the actual point of patrol right now? To do a couple of tedious quest lines? To farm glimmer/engrams? To do "missions"?!? Seriously Bungie. MAKE ME CARE. I want to care about patrol... To have fun exploring the worlds... To get interesting loot... I totally feel like patrol is there to take up space. Rant over I agree with all of your ideas, by the way, keep it up! :D
-
Good idea. I've always liked the idea of patrols and loved it when the game first came out, but they lack excitement. Not many people patrol anymore and the public events are meh and not rewarding enough. The beacons are kind of boring unless it's a high level target to kill. Patrols could be so much better
-
1 ReplyGreat ideas, hopefully they are reading them especially after they asked us to give ours. Another thing I found odd is the Fallen in the beginning of the game act very differently from the rest. Originally they were like bugs, climbing everywhere jumping from one place to another, coming out from holes in the wall, that was fantastic but the rest in game are just hanging out. These kinds of details are what's missing as well.
-
1 ReplyThey need a true open world feel about them. Maybe an outpost or 2 with their own traders etc
