There's no point in building the perfect Arsenal of weapons and armor in Destiny, we all learned that the hard way in Year One. The next DLC/expansion will make all of our gear obsolete so you why build a perfect set of armor with maxed Intellect & Discipline (or whatever your preference is) and the best weapons for every situation if they're gonna make all that work pointless every 3 months? I stopped caring about hitting max light and having the best gear after year one, there's literally no point in trying.

  • For me the point is to enjoy yourself right now not to grind out some perfect game winning set! I put together builds and try new things because it's fun and I want to explore the boundaries of the systems, I don't really have a desire to get everything or max everything, this is just how I play games! By the time things start getting outmoded I'll have probably gone through numerous builds, besides, I actually like the rotation. Give me new gear to work with that does different things, and take away old gear I was relying on and you've basically just given me more challenges and new opportunities, you've kept the game moving and alive for me.

  • That would be fine if these major changes were happening every 6 months or once a year but when they completely change the leveling system and nerf weapons & subclasses every 3 months, it really is pointless to bust your ass and max out 3 characters, especially with the current system. The insulting thing is they finally let us reroll weapons in House of Wolves, and a lot of people wasted tons of time and materials reforging their weapons to get the perfect rolls and then 3 months later take that feature away, make all year one gear obsolete, and nerf all year one perks to further make those "perfect rolls" become useless (field scout is useless now, Shotpackage removed from shotguns, etc). It's literally not worth bothering when you're essentially still playing a game that's treated like a Beta, being reworked every couple of months.

Firstly, if classes are being adjusted every three months then that makes maxing out three characters even MORE valuable, that way if your subclass gets nerfed and you are no longer effective with them you have 8 other subclasses to choose from across all the classes. You always have access to the objectively "best" class. Not saying that's the intended result but it's hardly worthless. Additionally, they haven't touched the leveling system in nearing 4 months now, and there have been no announcements or plans about doing so, so you don't really have to worry about that. It's definitely not gonna happen before September. It's an online persistent world shooter that is meant to expand, grow, and change constantly over the next 9 years, that's the entire point of the game! There's no way the gun you leveled up in the first 6 months should be expected to outclass every weapon you touch for the next 114 months, and as a result you are ALWAYS going to be leveling up new guns and new gear on a regular basis, and trying out new perks and new exotics that change the game in different ways. Maybe they make your current playstyle better, maybe they stomp it into the ground, who knows? That's why you adapt and find new strategies and other fun things to do within the game. Think on your feet, that's what competitive games are all about. The ones that evolve, and the ones that stay the same.

  • Nobody likes the infusion system and the double layer of bad RNG. If they keep the current system people won't stick around. It will be changed again.

I like the infusion system, it's a brilliant bit of game design. You let people keep older guns that they like, (barring year one stuff outside of crucible) and yet you still keep them attached to the RNG (which is the reward system of all of basically the entire game anyway). It makes high light drops valuable to you months down the line even if you already found your favorite gun on day 3 and don't care about the new guns that are dropping. It extends the carrot beyond you finding that one gun you want. It's brilliant compulsive game design. That said, with the RNG as lame as it currently is, it can feel pretty nefarious, and the ONLY thing that makes me totally cool with the infusion system is the fact that they are starting to introduce more guaranteed ways of getting high light gear. Challenge mode basically fixes the infusion system is what I'm saying, and as a result I don't think it's gonna change. I would like to agree with you on one point though: busting your ass is not worth it, ever. It's a video game, it's supposed to be fun, and your ass should be comfortable and enjoying itself the whole time you're playing. No in game rewards are worth stressing yourself out.

  • It's just a way to make hitting max light take longer than ever before, which is fine if you want to grind for it. But I expect to see some more content soon, and probably a higher light level cap. Bungie said they didn't like the long gap in time between The Dark Below and House of Wolves without new content. Personally I didn't mind it because that period of time was my favorite time in Destiny so far. I enjoyed running 2 different raids a week both with relevant rewards. Even if the RNG was poor, you had 6 chances a week to get raid gear. Anyway, there's probably going be another small content drop soon, and then another expansion probably in March. I've got plenty of other new games to play until then, I'm not going to dedicate my life to Destiny.

  • Yep, I agree. I finally started to level up the exotic armor I have accumulated since ttk. I'm doing it more out of boredom than anything else. I know in a couple months bungie will make them obsolete anyways. There is no point in grinding for the most perfect set up. That was year one's painful lesson.

  • I collected the first set of Iron Banner gear for each character, a set of VoG & Crota's End gear for each character and leveled every exotic in year one. TTK has already been out for 3 months so I bet we'll be seeing another expansion soon. Bungie even said they didn't want large gaps of time between new content, so I expect they'll be announcing something this month.
