This post is for those who use the "my internet is sucky" excuse. People in this day and age have a big problem: They are able to use technology but did not learn or acquire any discipline to use it. I use the word "discipline" loosely but I firmly believe that you should be able to diagnose issues or try to fix common problems if you are to use Internet technology and engage in competitive online multiplayer gaming. It's just how I feel about people and their cars. If you can't change your tire when you get a flat, don't be surprised when you get a ticket for driving with a flat tire without having fixed it. You didn't learn that your internet was shit recently, you knew this before. You didn't bother to google how to improve your performance or isolate your console to your router so that the 500 cellphones your household has connected to the wifi don't interfere. You didn't search up how to improve gaming performance because you would have learned to isolate your console to your modem or maybe assign it a static IP then enable a DMZ on that IP so that nothing that interferes could possibly interfere. (There are a million guides on doing this and your router manufacturer can even help you over the phone to do this) Instead, you did nothing, knew you had an issue and are now complaining because you got caught doing something that hinders the positive gaming experience for others. Just like how driving with a flat tire can be a hazard for those who have to share the roads with you. Bungie didn't randomly select you for a ban like it's a goddamn draw for a cruise. You got reported to them. A lot. Enough so that they took the time to look at your ping/history and determine that you were gaining an advantage on other gamers due to network issues which they suspected were manipulated. Get your shit together and learn about the technology you are using instead of being ignorant.

  • So true! Why is it that some people like me NEVER have any problems connecting to Destiny except when the networking problem is home made. I think a lot of connection problems could be resolved if people would just not use technology but try to understand it too. Wireless LAN maybe good for video streaming and genreal internet surfing as you actually do not recognize the problems your connection might have. But they become recognizable when it comes to "real-time" usage like online gaming. I don't want to know how many people come here complaining about Bungie when in reality it's because their console still is on NAT3 without proper port configuration, they use a wireless channel in their router which has a weak signal, they have another "million" other devices running at the same time. I'm really sorry but when you want to play PVP make sure Noah and Emma, Mommy and Daddy don't drag down your connection at the same time. Destiny (and every other PVP game) should check if your connections is able to handle the required amount of data before letting you into a multiplayer mode.

  • Not all providers give you a static ip and if you ask for one they charge you for it. Also if you are a young gamer and mess with your ip you can open yourself up to security issues. For me it would cost me twice what I'm paying now, so can you tell me if you take the cost over a year would my destiny experience be that much better?

  • I'm not talking about getting a static IP from your ISP. I'm talking about assigning your console a static IP from your router (so that whenever it is connected, it always receives the same IP from the router) and then enabling DMZ on that one static IP to prevent any traffic from being blocked to that one IP. A static IP from your ISP will do absolutely nothing to help with your gaming experience.

  • Thanks man, I've looked at my router settings and I'm able to do it however it does warn me of a security risk didn't know if you knew that?

  • What it does is it opens up that IP address 100%. Which means that there are certain security risks that you would be taking if that were your PC. Being that it's for your console, there's nothing really "bad" that can happen. No unauthorized access to your financials, nothing really. The risks you're warned about are mostly for computers

  • Sometimes all it takes for me is a router reset. I think, if this poster is from the US, what he's describing is very typical of ISPs from US.

  • Yea reset my Xbox and router regularly, in th UK one of the biggest providers is Sky and those routers are locked so you can't mess with it. The man is right about people's ignorance though, in my older house I used to live in I changed all the phone sockets and stopped the phone from looping this made a big difference to my speed, people don't realise that those sockets do corrode over time, there are so many things our end that can effect our internet but I think that this reinforces my point that these huge multinational publishers should provide the best online service not just for us but for the developers.

  • People will take things how they want to take things. Sometimes I want to post really blunt things in people's post. "where's xur?" "there's only two small places he can be, reef or tower and you don't even have to fly through space. Just look." Or "when is reset" "same time as every freakin' week." A lot of people will echo your sentiment of people who feel entitled. But then again there will be those who will be too butt hurt by every thing.

  • Thank you for all of those tips/suggestions. My internet is already very solid, but I want to do everything I can to help bolster/fortify it. Question though, does Destiny have dedicated servers, or is it a "Host" system, similar to CoD?

  • It's P2P, peer to peer much like COD. But main difference in see is that in COD if I'm lagging, I can see my character walk into a wall or walk in place or what not. I never see that in Destiny and I know my Internet can spike down at times like most normal Internet.
