Was Mass Effect nonsense right from the start

I know theres at least a few Mass Effect experts here so help please. Okay trying to make sense of the story of the Mass Effect games In Mass Effect 1 Saren and Sovereign need to find the Conduit on Ilos, but then we find out it's a back door in to the Citadel. So what was the point if Saren could have just gone to the Citadel without using the Conduit. He knew about the Conduit before he was exiled because it is mentioned in the very evidence that gets him exiled in the first place lol. So did he even know what it did? In fact, when and how did they even find out about the Conduit in the first place? Also how come Saren didnt destroy the beacon on Virmire after using it to stop it being used by someone else when he did just that for the Eden Prime one Okay then in Mass Effect 2 the Collectors are building a human Reaper but we never find out why until the ending of 3 where it turns out they harvest species so that synthetics wont kill them (lol). My problem with this is why bother with Collectors when they could just wait until the Reapers arrived to do it. Also why would the Collectors try to attack Earth wouldn't they be completely annihilated In Mass Effect 3 the Reapers attack everywhere in the galaxy except the Citadel first without even bothering to attack the Citadel until it turns out to be the Catalyst. But we learned in ME1 that the entire reason the cycle works is because the Reapers take control of the Citadel shut down the relays and gain info on every species. So why would they just skip that and start fighting a war instead Now that I come to think of this it seems really weird

http://www.youtube.com/user/smudboy/videos?view=0 I'd reccomend Smudboy's videos, more specifically the "questionable things" in ME2 and ME3. He brings up some excellent points about how both games were poorly made.

    • Everyone knows that Mass Effect 3 is the best place to start the series! So why bother with Mass Effect or Mass Effect 2?

      • In ME 1, they needed the conduit to get to the Citadel so they could surprise the council, The collectors are far more advanced than any other race, and they have husks and indoctrination to help them, not to mention seeker swarms. In ME 3, the reapers target the home worlds first because their plan to take out the citadel was foiled in the first game.

As far as M1 goes galactic civilization reaches a certain evolutionary point then the keepers on the citadel activate the citadel (remember it's a huge mass effect relay) bringing the reapers into the galaxy from outside the galaxy. The reapers do their thing then retreat back through the citadel into dark space. The protheans were able to figure out a way to hide on Ilos until the reapers had left the galaxy, at which point they used the conduit to gain access to the citadel's control area and modify the keepers so that they wouldn't summon the reapers. As it turned out it was actually a reaper who told the keepers when to summon the rest of the reapers so when the keepers ignored him(Sovereign) he had to figure out a new way to activate the citadel relay, which was to send an agent(Saren) through the conduit, to undo what the protheans had done.
