[b]A New Fate – A D2 Short Story[/b] [spoiler]Ever wonder what goes on at Bungie headquarters? *wink*[/spoiler] Damage-4 typed as fast as he could, sparks flying and alarms blaring. “C’mon!” Cosmo shouted to his friend. “They’re on our doorstep!” “I know, I know! Just need to put in the movie of the week.” “Forget it, Damage! We have to get out before Savathûn herself is knocking on our doors!” Damage turned angrily to his friend. “If we don’t serve our Guardians the way we’ve promised, then we are no better than Prince Uldren or Ghaul. We must defend our little lights.” Cosmo wanted to scream. But, knowing his friend, Damage knew he wouldn’t, and would wait as long as he needed to. “Fine,” Cosmo seethed. “But hurry.” “Just finished. TWAB is uploaded and online.” Damage pushed aside his chair and loaded the Last Word. “Let’s rock and roll.” The lights suddenly flickered off. The sound of angry Hive thrall echoed throughout the halls of Primstone Citadel. “That’s not good,” Damage murmured, turning to Cosmo. “We should regroup with Blackburn.” “Agreed.” The Hunter and Warlock advanced through the hallways of the dark headquarters, helmet lights turned on, weapons at the ready. Cosmo suddenly laughed. “This reminds me of Presage.” Damage smirked. “Yep. Didn’t think we’d be doing it in real life.” A pipe clanged to their right, and they whirled around. Their trigger fingers twitched as they looked at empty space. “Guys…kzzzt” Damage's comm chimed. “Regroup...kzzzt…ward room…post haste…” Damage nodded to Cosmo. “Move.” The two broke into a run, and it suddenly seemed like every Hive in the system had come to stop them. Thrall came from every corner of the building, howling with pure fury and malice. Finally, the duo reached the lit ward hall, where Blackburn wielded Sweet Business against the hordes of monsters. “’Bout time you all got here!” He called with a grin. “We were busy!” Damage replied as he punched an acolyte and gave a bullet to one of its eyes. “What were you doing?” “I was locking the Sunset Vault for good. Nothing needs to go in there anymore. Vault of Glass is being prepped, Felwinter's Lie is being looked at by Osiris and Crow, and Stasis is going to be examined by Ikora herself.” “And The Witch Queen?” “We’ve pushed her back. She won’t be threatening the Light for a little while longer.” Arc energy flowed through Cosmo as he fired Riskrunner nonstop. “How did these Hive get here?” “They’re angry about the good things we’ve promised to bring to the system. Anger is a tool for them. They use it in ways we can’t.” Laughter suddenly echoed off the walls. Evil laughter. “I know that laugh,” Damage muttered, flipping Last Word with unrivaled skill and reloading. “I would know it anywhere.” A Hive witch materialized before them, her hands spread wide, her head cocked back as she laughed. “Fools! Did you think you could defeat me? Me, the mistress of all evil?!” Blackburn felt Darkness flow through him as ice formed on his fingers. “Wrong story, lady.” “ARISE AND STAND, GUARDIANS!” Cosmo screamed. Guardians from every corner of the system transmatted into the ward hall, guns locked and loaded. Knives flipped. Hammers heaved. Robes flapped. Ninjas. Mentors. Shields. Everyone was there. The Hive witch backed up a little, trying to look unafraid. “There is no light here. Not for you.” “Wrong,” Blackburn replied. “The game has changed, witch. We have changed our Destiny. Let’s end yours.” “GUARDIANS!” Damage yelled, holding Last Word in the air. “FOR THE LIGHT! ATTACK!” Every Guardian that had been rezzed, found, and born that served the Primstone Citadel cheered for the horizon that had come. For the horizon that was coming.
