The How and Why Destiny 2 is easy, in both PvE and PvP.

So, this post will surely get me some hate and that's because I'm going to talk about how easy PvP is right now and also talk about why the 2 Primary Weapon System was great, and how they could've improved it. So let's get started. It's no mystery for all of the hardcore players that Destiny 2's PvE is easy as hell, the only difficult activity as of right now are the Master difficulty Nightfalls & Hunts, but that's just because we are underleveled, and not so much anymore because it's easier to hit 980 than the previous Season. So, as a whole, Destiny has never had a crazy difficult activity in and of itself, I'm not counting activities that were higher Light Level than what the Player could reach (Hard Mode Crota's End, Skolas, Nightfall Ordeal & Hunts). But it did had some activities that were challenging and required you to be focused (sometimes, depending on your Fireteam and how much banter there was). Those challenging activities include: • Hard Mode Vault of Glass (D1 Y1) • Nightfalls (D1 Y1) • Prison of Elders Light Level 34 (D1 Y1) • All of the Age of Triumph Hard Mode Raids (D1 Y3) • Prestige Leviathan (D2 Y1) • The Whisper Heroic Mission (D2 Y1) Those activities were challenging and we were not underleveled, you could and would get melted by simple Red-Bar adds and a Major was way fiercer. Looking back at D1, the game was balanced around us having a Special and a Heavy weapon, that's why Majors had a lot of health, a lot, don't know if anyone remembers but D1's Majors were fierce, the Ogres in Crota's End required a team effort to take down. The Captains in WotM required a lot of Heavy to kill or even a Super, the Minotaurs in VoG would rarely flinch and even the Relic carrier could get melted by them. Hell, even the Centurions and Bathers from Prestige Leviathan used to required a team effort to kill, Bathers less so but still, if you wanted to solo a Bather in Prestige Levi you had to dump all your Power on him. Destiny 2's Major were and ARE still balanced around the 2 Primary WS. Prestige Leviathan and, well, everything that has Majors is a joke now that you can pull out a Shotty and melt them with no effort. There's no pressure about them. Now, Champions do solve that problem but still, you can one shot Barrier and Overload Champs with Izanagi so they're not too scary anymore. Strikes in D2 are a joke and are so easy because we are so powerful, it's boring to me to just to mow through adds with basically infinite shotty ammo and super strong Supers, PvE in D2 has lost its "tacticallity"? Mindlessly crushing PvE isn't fun, even Garden of Salvation is a joke, the only danger in that Raid are the Cyclops and the final boss, even the Hydras die with one Izanagi shot or 3 or 4 Wendigo shots, it's easy. People complained and said that they wanted to feel powerful in Destiny 2, so Bungie changed the Weapon System and buffed our regen times and movement speed and everything. To me, being powerful is fun yes, of course, but I rather feel powerful after completing something that I know I had to focus even if just a bit rather than feel powerful because the enemies pose no danger or challenge whatsoever. PvE done, now to PvP. PvP is a cheese fest right now, anyone that says otherwise clearly hasn't played it recently. We have people mindlessly rushing with Shotguns, people wiping out their Erentil and charging it instantly, Sniper pre-aimers that receive no flinch at all, Warlocks with Handheld Supernova, Hunters with their Void Battery Dodges and their OHK knife with asburd aim assist, Titans with OEM and Shoulder Charge although that one isn't as annoying as the others (Shoulder Charge). Now add to that the fact that there's always Special on the floor unlike D1 were Special was rarer. It's a joke, and this comes from an Unbroken. Yes, D2 Y1's PvP had Wormhusk Crown and Graviton Lance and Vigilance Wing, but that was right before Forsaken so it doesn't count because at that point Bungie was already prepping for the return of Specials. People complained about the teamshoting and the slow TTK, when in reality those were minor problems, if at all. Pulling a double, triple or even a Lights Out in 4v4 was fun and always got you exited, right now, I don't feel excited getting a triple or quadruple anymore, because they are easy to get. The slow TTK actually added more leeway for outplaying and for more fun 1v1s to play out, winning a 1v2 or even 1v3 was the shit back then. I liked it, I loved it, PvP used to be more tactical and more about teamplay than anything, but that didn't mean you were completely useless going solo either. We didn't have cheesy weapons or abilities back then, only Power. And yes, fighting against an Acrius was annoying but aside from that, all Power weapons were balanced and everyone had the same chance to get their nice little 3 piece each match, it was fun, but not frustrating like right now. Plus it also added more skill gap, being good with your primary shot and also having crazy snipes with Power? Damn. So, it all boils down to: The 2 Primary Weapon System was great for what Destiny 2 wanted to accomplish, a more grounded, tactical experience were we're not as powerful but there's still that small taste of achievement after doing or beating something a tad bit challenging, whether it be from a simple 3 piece with a Sniper or your very first Prestige Leviathan clear. Slow gameplay isn't always bad (I'm looking at you, Dark Souls II) slow and more meticulous gameplay can be hella fun in its own way, people just have to find the sweetness in the slowness, which is what people didn't do. I think Bungie should've stuck to their decision and improve on it, make the Kinetic to Energy synergy more important and impactful to make everyone shine in different situations, not just for destroying Shields. Thanks for reading and I hope you have an open mind about this topic.
