(Possible SPOILER warning) My thoughts on Destiny's future (as being a two-year player)

So recently I've been checking out the lore for Destiny & I've been trying to think about what could happen next in the game. So far, as is pretty obvious, I'm sure there will be a massive "endgame" storyline for D2 that will probably end with the reappearance of the Darkness. Given that in Shadowkeep the player is confronted with a Darkness version of him/herself & the Ghost is possessed by the Darkness for the duration of the Pyramid exploration, I assume that we'll be presented with a darkside/lightside choice when the Darkness comes back. Seeing as it would be difficult (& probably impossible) to fully implement this into D2, I think it's safe to say that this means a "D3" of sorts. As for what that would involve (some of it to the frustration of many players): areas of open world PvP, the classic two-sided faction war, storylines with more friends dying & others becoming traitors, or Chaotic neutrals like the Drifter, & DLC or game progression based on player choices. I feel like it's pretty obvious that a D3 is coming, or at the very least some game ending event. But seeing as Bungie hasn't said anything & everything is conspiracy right now, we have no real idea about it. Anyways that's just me thinking about it, & I'd like to hear what everyone else thinks about it as well.

  • Disagree. While I think you may be correct, about which way the storyline goes....I doubt that its going to lead to the gameplay changes you predict. 1. Bungie has gone to great lengths to see that clans are the man social unit of the game. To the point of basically removing factions from the game. 2. Open World PVP is DIVISIVE in any game that it ever put into, and would be destructive to the sense of community Bungie has gone to great lengths over 5 years to build. So destructive that---without dedicated servers and a way for PVE players to opt out of it----adding Open world PVP would be suicidal to this franchise. The Dark Zone---and what to do wtih it---has been an unending series of headaches for Massive Entertainment and The Division franchise. 3. I think what is likely to happen is that all Guardians will fight for humanity....but we'll be offered a Light Path (Vanguard, Traveller) and a Dark or Hybrid path (The Drifter with or without Eris Morn). Now whether it will be a Dark subclass....or just darkness power weapons like Malfeasance and Thorn....only time will tell.

    • My thoughts are its going to be long running con, but it always has an ending. The streamer ships will be there for judgment.

    • <Honestly anyone who gives in to the Darkness fully at this point is the big dumb. The power should be used as a tool, yes, and it seems like we'll be getting those powers at some point, but fully joining it is stupid. That's not even a PoV thing it's literally a matter of life and death.>
