I wanted to share a couple Gambit tips I haven't seen discussed much. After playing with some friends this weekend I was shocked how few of them had caught on to how predictable most invasions have become, and how easy they are to counter.
1. Know how to read the motes/progress bar. - When the opposing team has enough motes in hand (gray area of the opponent's bar) to invade (25 or 50 motes indicated by the 1/3 segments of the bar) you should be banking your motes and preparing to counter invasion. In my experience at least 75-80% of teams will send an invader as soon as they have banked enough motes so be prepared.
2. Invasion spawns are super predictable. - Like to the point it's becoming a problem and is kind of embarrassing Bungie made them so static. Pay attention when you invade, or when being invaded and learn the locations on each map. The only somewhat randomization of spawn is which zone, but the point within each zone is static within 1-2 meters.
3. Motes/Collection Phase - During this phase the invasion will always be at one of the two areas not currently occupied by ads (although in rare circumstances the zone rotation and invade can occur at the same time causing them to overlap). When the opposing team has enough for an invasion send one teammate, preferably holding 0 motes to each possible spawn (preferably someone with super/heavy). Have them pick ads from a distance for your gatherers and nuke the invader as soon as they appear. Even if you're solo you have a 50/50 shot at choosing the correct invasion point.
4. Primeval Phase - If playing with a team try to spread out your team to the different invasion points. Take out the envoys with ranged weapons, and wait for the invader. Don't worry most teams will send one immediately so you won't be waiting long. If playing solo try to pick a spot on the outside of the map, preferably where you can cover a couple different invader spawns with super/heavy. Most teams make the mistake of grouping up in the middle on the Primeval or back in their spawn right away. Invaders are expecting this and will often spawn in and look directly to the Primeval without checking their radar. Moving to the outside takes advantage of this. They are not expecting to spawn in right next to you.
5. Primeval DPS - Once the invader is down feel free to head toward the center to burn supers and Heavy ammo on your Primeval uninterrupted. then spread out again after 10-15 seconds to block the next invasion.
Gambit can be much less stressful if you know how to deal with invaders proactively. Between the spawns and predictive invader behavior there is little excuse to be caught off-guard by an invasion by the opposing team. If I'm in position at the right time by reading the progress bar, 9 times out of 10 I can kill an invader within 1-2 seconds of spawn before they even realize I'm standing next to them.
Good luck Guardians, hope this helps with strategy next week during 2x and 3x Infamy.

Nothing beats the surprise of the invader when they get melted from behind as soon as they spawn. I can't always do it, but I do it pretty often.
-
Also, Chaos Reach evaporates the Primeval.
-
It's pointless trying to help people with this game mode. Most people are terrible at it . I play solo and have just lost 9 games in a row. Some of the things I've seen people do is quite laughable.

Invasion points are NOT super predictable. They are random. You cannot predict random. Good post otherwise.
-
One of my favorite Gambit moments was when I killed an invader right after they activated their Golden Gun. They appeared in front of me and I popped them twice with my Ikelos Shotgun while my teammates melted the Primeval.
-
I just bank after every wave of ads, unless i get less than 5, but id rather play it safe, when prim comes my 2 team mates burn wizards with ikelos while i kill small ads (my loadout is to kill enemies for motes and invaders so not to hot on dps weapon wise) we wait for the invader, kill him, then my boy throws melting point, pops his super, our hunter shoots a shadowshot at the same time and shoots rockets and i go ham with thors hammer!! By the time my super runs out he is dead, if we had a 4th it would be easier too lol

Yea i could do a bunch of homework on how to do better at the most garbage game mode in destiny OR or just hear me out. I could just spin in a circle and get the same rewards. Hhhmmm.

I have a better tip. Just don’t play gambit. Ever.
-
Invader spawn: Right the f behind me.😱
-
I'd prefer gambit without all the bs catchup mechanics
-
Eh we down our primeval in seconds as soon as he spawns. We don’t even use heavy. Well w/Luna boots, melting point, 2 BBs and 4 EP shotties. Literally seconds lol
-
Tldr Everyone knows the best strategy is rubber band until the weeklies are completed, then play an actual fun game mode 👍
-
Appreciate this post. I’ve only played solo and have enjoyed myself so far. I didn’t know what the grey bar was though so thanks.
-
Dude, you just have away the best tricks in the game. Smh, hopefully no one will read this and listen/learn.
-
Good advice Guardian, best post I've seen in awhile.👏🏆
-
Great tips - I hope more people read this! Gambit is really fun if you play strategically - but it's crap if you play like an idiot and let yourself get killed by the invader!
-
Good job
-
That’s a pretty good rundown! I still haven’t figured out if the invasion portal cooldown while the enemy had a primeval up starts when someone invades, or when the invader returns.
-
The idiots will never understand anything.. They just settle for that the loosing team gets a MASSIVE BUFF. They are clueless tards, now move along.
-
Heres another couple tips to add, Not everyone can sit at the bank and pick off the waves of enemies. Most of the motes will disappear before you get everything killed. You need to steamroll those waves (carefully though) as a team. Some players (like me) dont care about motes, if you see someone killing adds but not picking up motes, they're for you. Go get them!

Ehhh the spawning on invasions is weird, I spend a lot of my time invading in gambit and quite often I do spawn with the ads, with them completely out.
-
Invasions wouldn't be a problem if bungie knew how to ballance heavy ammo in the mode
