After you buy it, you can buy the exotic armor! Don't know if there is a requirement for completing legendary... but it's there for me.

2 RepliesCan confirm you do not need to finish the campaign on legendary to buy the exotic armor. After I got the core, I spent another 4k credits and got the warlock helm. I did a couple campaign missions on legendary thru matchmaking, but did not do everything on legendary.
