[PC] No Audio from behind when using Headphones via Dualsense
PC
PLATFORM: Steam
SYSTEM INFO:
Windows 11
Dualsense Edge Controller
Headphones plugged into controller. Controller connected to PC via Cable.
ISSUE:
This issue is not limited to D2. Any game that forces surround sound and does not let you change to Stereo in Setting has this issue.
The Dualsense controller is being recognized as a quadraphonic audio-system by windows. The 2 front channels work as intended but the 2 in the back are for the vibrations. Since the game thinks that a quadraphonic audio system is being used, any sound that is being send to the back 2 channels will be converted to vibration instead, thus making it impossible to hear things from behind. (footsteps, dialogue, gunfire, anything)
REPRO STEPS:
Connect Dualsense (PS5 controller) or Dualsense Edge to the computer (via cable). Connect a working headset to the controller (3,5mm jack). Make sure you get proper sound from the headset (music, videos etc.). Then in game visit any NPC that randomly talks without having to interact with them (like Zavala in Tower, or Eris on Moon). Wait for them to talk then turn around, and anything they say will get converted into vibration on the controller and you won't be able to hear them. Or visit a place with a lot of fighting like on the Moon and just turn your back towards the gun fire etc. you won't be able to hear it. Or a constant source of sound like burning fire, explosions etc..
ACTUAL RESULT:
Sound that is happening behind the character cannot be heard.
EXPECTED RESULT:
You should be able to hear everything.
SOLUTION:
Like with other games that had this issue (Helldivers2, DeadSpace Remaster), adding the option to switch between surround sound and stereo in the Audio Options (in game!) will help solve this issue. Since switching to Stereo in those games worked perfectly fine.
