I have been learning piano for a few months now, most of my time practicing has been trying to learn songs by reading sheet music and practicing scales. Are there any other techniques I should look into that would help with playing?

Look into every chord, do arpeggios not just scales. Create a list of songs you wish to learn that mean a lot to you and go for them, when you practice techniques, start to relax more. Try doing trills as well especially, and relax as you do them. Don’t stiffen up you’ll slow down and lose dexterity and hurt yourself man. Furthermore, constantly listen to the music you aim to learn, it will benefit you immensely in the long run when you can hear it in your head from memory. Keep playing, freestyle play when you feel you’re ready to. Do it for the love of it, and back off from the piano if you’re going through a dark time you need to NOT put dark emotions of pain, sadness, and suffering into that instrument or else the memories will make you shudder when you consider playing it again after having played it in more dark times than happy, at least in my experience that’s how it worked for me.
