The portal is fine. It's a starting point that helps guide players to gear and activities while letting them play the difficulty they want and with whom they want to play with. All it needs is the rest of the old activities added to it, like gambit, the other pvp modes, raids, etc.
And maybe make it look like the world screen so that we still get the exploration feel of going from location to location in space.
Also, if they delete the portal, yall will all of a sudden miss it, like yall do everything when they bring something new and remove it. Ex: pathfinder. Yall hated it while it was here. The sec they removed it, there was nothing but love for it lol. Same would happen with the portal.
You'd see the talk turn to 'why can't they just make it easier to pick activities, chase certain items we need/want, select mods, have a starting point to guide players, etc, like the portal did?' Lol.

The portal isn't causing people to leave like that lol. Most people left cause we killed the witness. That was the end of the 10 year ride for them. Kinda like the mcu with Thanos. After that, the cause of people leaving is there have been a lot of good games that have dropped. And it may come as a surprise to a lot here, people don't play the same game all the time, which is fine.

All they had to do was make everything level you and have deltas as a optional modifier, everyone saying the portal is bad when its just baren because bungie was too dumb to be open and say hey we only have a small list of things in it right now but raids, dungeons and strikes will be added over time. Also, those activities will have a roll out of armor perks and revamped perk pools so current gear is fine, but we'll improve things according to feedback.

That's the thing: players want the best gear, while doing little work for it, aka the game giving them any challenge. Doesn't work like that, never has. Bungie has said exactly what you said about the portal, armor, etc lol. Players just don't care to pay attention, and/or they have no patience. They want it now, and if it's not now, all they do is complain it's not there now.

Brother, have you seen the current new player experience? The Portal doesn't guide anyone. It just dumps you and says Goodluck. Here's your new home for the next 100 hours.

It does guide lol. It gives you a starting point about things to do. What I'm about to say is going sound harsh, but whatever. F the new player experience lol. I don't understand why the community is so worried about this game being so new player friendly. This is an old game. They not going to change everything up for players that are just joining and/or will join. They have tips and hints that play at the bottom, the portal as a starting point, and this isn't old days with no internet/info out about this old game. No one asks this for any other old games, but they do of destiny.

Except it doesnt just let you select the difficulty they want to play at. You have to play x amount of time in each difficulty bracket to move up to the next one for no reason. The portal system is mared by the power level system. If the portal had been introduced without the power grind being all of the content this xpac it would have been fine.

They do that to stop players from trying to do ultimate when they 100 lol. They tell us that at a certain point, you not doing any damage to the enemies. Yet, if they didn't stop us, players would try it anyway, just to complain about it. Anyway, after you unlock a level, you can play it anytime you want. So you can pick any difficulty you want that's available to you.

There isnt a problem with people going into ultimatum at lvl 100. Everything is on a power delta, ultimatum syncs to your level and makes you -50, its the same difficulty at plvl 100 as it is at plvl 550. People should be able to jump straight into gms and ultimatums at plvl 100 and get relative power bumps and T5 gear, even strip out the power entirely and have the gear be the chase like before. Having to level through each difficulty is arbitrary and just pads the game time

That's not how that works lol. It does not automatically put you at the set delta level. You have to reach the max power allowed for that level to reach the set delta level. If you go in there anything less than that, you will be putting yourself at even more disadvantage. And like they've said, it will reach a point when you won't be doing any damage to enemies. Everyone will have skulls over them. Hence why they don't let people go into higher difficulties until they reach a certain level cause it's pointless lol. If they did, people would just complain 'it's too hard' lol. The game has always been like this lol. To get better things, you had to get to higher levels to do tougher activities. The only difference now is that they are spelling it out for us the different levels and what we have to reach to do them.

i absolutely will not miss it. some people might, sure but i NEVER will. it doen't feel like destiny, it doesn't feel like any game i would play long-term, i detest the portal with every fiber of my being.
