And again nothing in the article states destiny is close to shutting down.

Do you understand what an impairment charge is and how that works going forward?
-
cost of acquisition minus depreciation
-
No, depreciation is a planned expense over time. You spread the value out over years. An impairment charge is an unexpected drop in asset value that was unplanned. Depreciation is expected. Impairment is a shock and was not planned for.
-
That's the literal definition for "impairment loss". The analog I used to describe the situation at a microcosmic level for easier comprehension of what was said in the Q2. Is: You're a gardener, you need a new truck for work despite a recent drought that decimated your clientele. That truck... is an impairment loss respective assets and evaluation. Thus, cost of acquisition minus deprecation. It doesn't mean you get rid of the truck. That company isn't worth as much as it was before the drought.

This is not a tangible asset, though. Goodwill and most intangible assets (like Bungie’s brand, IP rights, and player base value) are not depreciated or amortized over time under accounting rules — they’re only tested for impairment. So there’s no “routine depreciation expense” for Bungie at all. When Sony writes down $204 million, it’s an impairment charge, not depreciation. That distinction matters because depreciation happens every period by design. Impairment only happens when there’s a sign that the asset has lost real economic value.
-
This is what Bungie is capable of at the moment. What do you think they will be able to provide with even fewer resources after Renegades?
-
That's not happening.
-
I will gladly retract my words if Bungie increase the quality and/or quantity of content post Renegades. As of the End of Final shape, we have only seen a downward trend. Every release post EoF launch has been mediocre at best and a disappointment at worst. Fewer players = less resources = less profit = less content = faster drop in player numbers.
-
Okies, get them ready 😉. I do think you want the game to get better.
-
I do want to game to get better, or at the very least revert back to pre EoF levels of competency. Nothing in the time since EoF has indicated Bungie is capable of fixing Destiny, especially with leaks saying that Renegades is going to be mediocre. It seems more likely that Bungie can only arrest, and not revert the decline of this beautiful game, perhaps the once one of the greatest I have ever played. But we shall see, only time can tell.

You're missing the part about downward revisions. No one is saying the article says it's dying, but downward revisions are not from a place of faith or high expectations within a company. Try looking up when they're usually done instead of immediately dismissing it. That's the only way you'll be prepared for when the franchise and studio actually closes
