Many people are blaming the devs for ruining the game. Others are saying its the upper management producers ruining the product. The truth is..... mouthy rude players, and people who kick you during final boss dps, plus all the players that remove you from fireteam because they posted kwtd plus exploits and you dont do exploits. The bad players and cheaters killed destiny 2... those who played with and funded the bad apples ruined destiny 2.
Good day

1 OdpowiedźIt is all about marketing . Streamers have that influence that lets thousands if not hundreds of thousands buy the dlc cause appearently you have hundreds of thousands that don't have their own opinion . They just do whatever the streamer does and let the cash flow to bungie . The streamer itself and bungie profits from that , not those a-holes that kick you at the end of a boss phase . They are prob the ones that sub to streamers so they would get even more free money . Streamers are the reason of the state in destiny 2 , no-one else . You cannot blame bungie for using streamers so their game would be succesfull . No-one asked them to be destiny 2 streamers in the first place . Also no-one has asked them to promote bungie their content for a decade , bungie simply used that to their advantage to be succesfull so they listen to streamers and change stuff to satisfy not them but their fanboys that watch the streamer and the dlc , hundreds of thousands all because of streamers . That is just smart thinking . But streamers don't realize that playing destiny 2 as a dayjob is what made it change so badly . They all played destiny 2 as a job for the last decade and look what has become of it . Streamers should stop playing games as a dayjob and get a real job , who cares that some random streamer is rich ? The game itself is destroyed because of those rich streamers . I rather have an amazing game that i can play whenever i want and that never gets changed than streamers who do nothing but play that same game to make a living . Go get a job or destroy another game , idk . Destiny 2 is dead because of streamers . Most of them are already playing bf6 all because of marketing , not because they like to play it .

Do you want the truth? What really killed destiny was when they took away the base of the game. You can't expect new players to come and stay without knowing wtf is going on and why. If you can't retain all the veterans and there's no new players guess what happens? That is like population ageing. Old people die, if nobody is having babies, guess what happens

1 OdpowiedźEdytowany przez użytkownika FloodZ: 10/13/2025 2:15:12 PMThese types of toxic players (the cheaters, get gud, if it's too hard don't play, etc.) have always existed in the game, they didn't drive anyone out before now because they weren't such a high percentage of the player base. But Bungie (devs, management, everyone) has slowly been evaporating away the content and quality of Destiny 2 and all the regular players who just want to enjoy a compelling story in a good enough game have left with it, so all you have now is a tiny pool of concentrated toxic sludge. They almost don't have anywhere else to go because not many other games would put up with their -blam!-. Destiny 2 is becoming the Salton Sea of looter shooters.

Portal Extending eververse Purposely removing specific earnable loot ao it can go into eververse Events becoming more of a cash grab Lack of innovative development Prolonged yet pointless grind Complacency Abusing your loyal playerbase

5 OdpowiedziThose examples are endemic to the greater issue. If anything, the toxic culture of this community fostered this behavior. The git guds, the too hard don't play, don't like it don't play, or the sure, see you next season arguments are all systemic issues with this community.

Beg to differ with you, but.... I am going to! The player reduction and not meeting revenue goals all started when they started making the game harder and all about builds. You can disagree but during that expansion they laid off more than 100 devs in response to missed revenue goals. The next expansion saw more layoffs and while they did not announce it, I would imagine it was in response to more miss revenue goals. Along comes EOF, the worst expansion ever, even worse than CoO, and the lowest ever player counts with the hardest, and most grinding the game has ever seen. There is a direct correlation between the difficulty and the fun factor. No one likes bullet sponges, most average player do not like the shear difficulty of the game. The grind to get to 550, the crappy gear and weapons that make good builds neigh impossible unless your just lucky. The problem is Bungie not the players. The worse the game gets the more players leave. Now Bungie is promising everyone below 300 LL a set of 300 LL gear. I got crappy Tier 1 and 2 gear that can't make an effective build. No way they are giving me what i need to make a great build. Which translates into being in master level content, under geared, with a crappy build and no real relief in sight. It took me years to accumulate the best gear I could and it is now all worthless. Why would I want to stick around for this crap show? One reason and one only, a friend paid for my year of content, because everyone else we know bailed and he has no one else to goof with. So players left because the game got really difficult to play and just have fun with friends. Bungie has been told this countless times in the last 2.5 years, but they are NOT listening. They even have/had a dev who wanted players to cry over the difficulty and laughed about it. It is clearly a problem with bungie!

Nerfs, sunsets, ignoring the majority of the player base — the casuals — while catering to the top 1% (who aren’t even playing anymore). More nerfs, more sunsets, and then they had the audacity to sell the last DLC at full price, scamming everyone with zero meaningful content. And of course, what do we get next? More nerfs — because apparently Bungie has some kind of weird -blam!- for breaking the fun out of their own game. At this point, it feels like Bungie is speedrunning how to kill a franchise.

4 OdpowiedziYou’re telling me the game went from like (using just Steam numbers, yes console has more) 300k players on Steam to under 10-20k now because of “mean players” and cheaters? Bruh

I mean, those players suck, but they've always existed.

Lack of new content is killing the game, they used to add new strikes, new PvP maps, even new Gambit stuff sometimes. Each DLC/expansion has given less and less of these as time has gone on. The portal is just leveling playing years old content, most people are tired of that.

1 OdpowiedźMany people have put forward excellent points here. And for the most part they’ve all contributed to where we are. What will kill this game is the Tiger engine or whatever they call it now after Bungie tinkered with it last. It’s a modified version of the Blam engine from Halo. This engine is very, very old and it’s the spaghetti code that is going to kill this game. Look at every time Bungie change even the slightest thing, what happens? 10 other things break. Now that may be exaggerated, but not by much. Bungie’s unwillingness or inability to build a new engine or unravel the spaghetti code within the Tiger engine quickly enough is going to cause more and more problems until the game crashes completely or they are forced to put more paid content into the DCV. Either of these solutions will kill the game, and possibly the franchise, completely. Now I know from my very limited knowledge of programming and coding both these tasks are time consuming and expensive. I also know that D2 wasn’t designed to carry on forever. It seems like they chose to just keep kicking this problem down the road, until it was someone else’s problem. In this case Sony’s. I really hope Sony decide that the Destiny franchise is worth investing in. I really hope that they address the issues with the game and its current state and be honest with us about the future of the game without all the Bungie hype and lies. I know it’s premium grade copium, but 🤷♂️.

Complete lack of content. Strikes pvp map packs you know making a game

EoF killed the game. It was tolerable before EoF. -Matterspark -Gooey crap you throw at rocks -Kepler -New power leveling system (excessive grind) -idiotic mods (grappler, volatile shields trade off etc.) -Killing of any other content as alternative to portal leveling up like raids and dungeons (New raid exception). ……and the big one…..the much hated portal. What Bungie did with EoF was mother of all f-ups in the gaming industry. Game is dead.💀

You think that’s bad, look into “the good ol boys” before my comment gets removed. Elitist gate keepers with insider info ready to rug pull for content.

I don’t believe the problem is that singular.

Totally agree. I stopped playing with blueberries years ago. That way there is no chance I will match with those people
-
Portal killed the game, but I agree that the community actually played a bigger part in this, over the years this game developed a serious fanboy problem, whatever they do those like the op will defend the indefensible and somehow blame the situation on average players, and bungie always buys it, this is the reckoning it always deserved

2 OdpowiedziEdytowany przez użytkownika Dooodley: 10/13/2025 11:52:47 AMEvery issue you have seem to revolve around fireteams. I feel like all your problems could be solved by finding likeminded players to play with - instead of relying on randoms. See, I'm always playing solo and I havent encountered any of it. Hell, I´d be happy if a random in the open world would write or try to communicate with me - even if the goal was to offend me - because no one has literally ever done that. It's the most dead game in terms of social aspects I've ever played - and it's been that way since the beginning when the game had a decent population.
