I just don’t understand why Bungie would establish that the Echoes are partially the memories of others subsumed by the Witness and build this entire story with the Qugu and Te’Qal only for it to be utterly meaningless within the in-game narrative of the Episode outside of a single radio message. My hope is that MAYBE this will be leveraged better with Revenant and the Echo Fikrul has found, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

  • It’s to make connections to legitimize the newly added storyline. Cause the BoS entry about the Qugu had nothing to do ‘control’, it was a weird symbiotic relationship with another species that resulted in a mind altering drug like effect and then they get smoked by the Darkness forces. A hippie trippy civilization that got mowed down by the big meanies, shows how evil the Darkness side is. That’s all they were. So they just took a species that had no real backstory and used them to justify the new story. Why make something new when you can reskin. Just like they relied on Maya and Chioma, known names and some inclusion to boot. Their use in LF was good but this episode was obvious fluff. And they call this tying off the loose ends. This episode “tied off” the loose ends with the Vex. So don’t have any hope for Revenant. They are more concerned with making their own new saga than finishing off Statens work. Like they said in the twab “our new saga” in italics. So that’s them wanting to close the book on the old stuff.

  • What do you mean? It was a back story that served to explain why the Echo of Command can do what it does. Did you want another Veil and radial mast situation? lol It's also just a really well written chronicle to enjoy reading.

  • I agree. Stories like this within the lore entries expand the setting of Destiny and flesh out its history, and I enjoy reading through it whenever possible. In the case of the Qugu, I was delighted to see their civilization expanded upon from the viewpoint of one of their own, and how it followed up on the "Inspiral" lore entry, which revealed their race had a connection to the Darkness.

  • That's precisely my point. It is a backstory that explains why the Echo of Command can do what it does. The actual STORY of the Episode however completely fails to touch on it, relegating it to a passing mention in a radio message from the Conductor, one which if you are unlocking the lore book one entry at a time as intended meant that by the time you hear it you have no idea how that might work because you don't know that Witness inducted Te'Qal at the end of the lore book. Some of the dead air within the Episode's narrative could've been filled by such an exploration.
