Does Bungie kinda suck at story telling when it's not Hive related?
-
They suck….but then again….that falls in line with the current woke story narrative they are pushing.
-
I think the only reason why the Hive storytelling isn't as effected as the others is because there was so much groundwork already established in game rather than just in lore. There's a lot of storytelling with the vex and fallen but since most of it was lore side rather than in-game the modern Bungo writers were able to fudge it up to such a higher extent
-
Yeah they do. The lore behind the conductor is interesting but this season just sucks narratively. They're wasting the lore like this
-
Hard to be invested in a character that hasn't stopped whining in years. Normally when you are storytelling a character sees growth. Osiris has stayed the same for years. If anything he has become dumber as time has gone on.
-
This would have to be one of the worst storylines we have had in this game
-
The Vex are just really boring tbh. They have no motivations.
-
Bungie sucks at story telling full stop. Witch queen was not a good story. Neither was forsaken or final shape The "this is good" bar for stories in destiny is just incredibly low
-
It's because they are trying to stretch the story so it branches into new threads for later on. They should go back to making single player games that way they can actually tell a coherent story.
-
I feel we should have gotten a Bray and Elizabeth centered story with Bray being the Big Bad and experimenting with the Vex and Elizabeth trying to stop him with our aid with some backstory and scenes dropped in with him leading the Vex here in the first place. Would have been better then Osiris and Saint 14. Thats just me though.

I wanna see more Vex. I don't care about Fallen, I'm over Hive and Cabal are done, nothing to see there, but the Vex? There's a whole lotta unknown, they could do SO much with it if they only let themselves go. These past 2 weeks seeing the Vex architecture in the new Strike/Battleground (whatever), I can never get enough of that. But ........ Bungo 🤷 I ain't holdin my breath.

The story telling in general has been a big improvement I think. But the vex suffer because we don't have, and have never had, any meaning communication with them. Plot points are always more engaging when the characters are more involved. I loved calus... he was a great character and enjoyed all story arcs with him (osiris and nimbus perhaps detract during lightfall but they're still engaging). The witness/cayde made the final shape! This season we get two mopey boys, and no big bad (yet????)... so the only conversation we get I kinda want to ignore. Although, I like failsafe but she's working with duds (characters, not actors)!

Edytowany przez użytkownika The Hermit IX: 7/25/2024 2:16:54 PMForsaken and Final Shape were good but yeah WQ and season of the witch were excellent story lines. It’s hard to find the Vex threatening or interesting honestly. Maybe they’ll be reshaped enough to be a compelling story beat moving forward.

Edytowany przez użytkownika jhermannITJ: 7/24/2024 6:27:26 PMIt going to pick up... From a writers perspective let me talk about it. There's the main arc of the franchise that they have been developing for over 10 years whilst trying to preserve some intrigue and mystery. That's hard. Some believe that they failed... I do not. The expectation being that the narrative should be front facing and literal at all times, because that's how storytelling works in most games. To figure out the story... a player needs to invest in the lore. That's where Bungie has been weak, imo. Players don't have a Bungie curated, dedicated portal for the lore. We need one. Accessible on Bungie.net and the companion app... ideally in-game. In-game requires gameplay progression to unlock access to it. I don't know if you remove those mechanics entirely... however there should still be a portal/compendium players can access once the lore is available to be unlocked in-game. In kind, the audio logs... I've been making an effort over the last 2 years to be a guide for people to these various resources I use to analyze and study the lore... included are my theories respective the core arc of the narrative. I use Destinypedia for lore and Destiny Lore Vault on Youtube for videos. DLV is also connected to a Reddit group and they have a lore compendium too here's the link: Lore Compendium

-
I had hoped that they were secretly going to build on the old Cliffhanger mission from the Red War and have Asher Mir return after closing the Pyramiddion leading a Vex faction that he infected with individuality. But no, just follow the formula.

Xivu Arath is right there, their storytelling with the Hive is also flawed. The majors issue is they spent the year of Lightfall spinning their wheels and after Final Shape the first Episode we get is a story where the Vex are being controlled by an outside force for the third time. It’s a weak start. Very weak start.
