I bought a rucksack the other day, got it home and realised that the buttons it uses to close the main compartment are magnetic, not the ordinary push-to-close ones. This wouldn’t be so bad, except for the fact that the magnetism is so weak they’re barely functional, and I have serious concerns about how easily someone could open it without my knowledge.
Luckily the straps also have buckle fastenings on them (for decoration I guess?) which I can use, so I’ve superglued the magnets together and will just use the buckles instead, but what the hell is wrong with buckles or normal push buttons? Every single hardwearing rucksack that isn’t zippered seems to have these ridiculous pathetic weaksauce magnets on and it pisses me off no end. What on earth is the point?

What do you consider a hardwearing rucksack? What are you using it for? What features, besides an absence of weak magnets are a must have for you? What's your budget?
