Since he was revealed, I have viewed The Witness and an equivalent to the Speaker. Except where the Speaker speaks for the Light/Traveler, the Witness speaks for the Darkness/Pyramids. Is this assumption correct? It would make sense in my mind but I’m interested in what you all know/think.

1 ReplyMy understanding is that that darkness and light are more forces of nature than being conscious entities in and of themselves, whereas the traveller and the witness are conscious entities that have thier own agendas and simply use the light/darkness for their own means. By extension I think of the witness being to the darkness what the traveller is to the light. In that way I see the (former) speaker being more like a disciple of the traveller much like rhulk was a disciple of the witness. But hey, that's just one guardians opinion

5 RepliesThe witness IS the darkness so to speak, the darkness is just a tool and the witness is using it

my understanding of it was that the darkness was a tool used by the witness , so in this context the darkness would be the speaker for the witness

Loosely, sure, they sorta fill the same role. A high priest of sorts. The whole Speaker thing seemed unfinished to me. Golden Age Speakers got duped into convincing humanity the Traveler would protect them. Which led to a general anti-violence mentality for a majority of humanity. Softened them up for the Collapse. Instead of a more militant society preparing for war, we were singing kumbaya. Post Collapse Speakers aren’t credited with anything special, besides being a spiritual leader of sorts. So this ultra rare, super special connection to a god of creation….was used to fool humanity. Then lure them back into serving it, as no one left alive knows the truth. Yeah, the whole Speaker thing smacks of the og storyline. I think he was meant to have a longer and more central role in the og storyline but changes made them axe him early and leave it alone. The Witness has done the exact opposite. Building legions of minions, enacting it’s gods will across the cosmos. We got the short end of the deal
