You were only in a patrol, and you lost your stuff because of poor inventory management.
Questions to ask yourself to help you from repeating your mistake.
What activity am I running? Do I really need 10 of each item slot on me, whilst running said activity? Is my postmaster full of garbage? If I have abundance of materials I am currently not using, do I need them?
Maybe this could help you. Maybe not. Good luck with “your problem”.

I keep the bottom three slots of my gear clear at all times and the vault has plenty of room. It was the overflow of engrams that was the problem. I decided to grind a playlist, thinking the overflow of engrams would mean the engrams newly received would then not be sent to the post master, and therefore deleted instead of deleting the oldest items at the postmaster. So my mistake, I guess! But the problem is that I need to store one of the games most valuable rewards in the postmaster to begin with! Why can I only hold 10?

When you are in the loading screens delete blues, you have plenty of time between activities.

You made this post 4 hours ago, and the only activity close to that was savathuns throne world. You played day before and the last activities was the leviathan. After I made my response to your post you started playing crucible. You clearly do not manage your inventory. That is a “you” problem. You clearly were not using your precious shards. Hence why they are in postmaster. Postmaster is not storage. Use as such, and expect to lose things in it. It’s not a hard concept. When I grinded GMs like over a year ago. When I had upgrade materials going to postmaster I stopped and upgraded armor. I managed my inventory, and time playing. You should look at your own playstyle and re-evaluate what things are important to you. If you had items in postmaster for weeks/months, clearly you don’t want or need them. I am sorry they limited the number you could store, but it is the number they settled on. Now it’s up to the player “you” in this case to manage your inventory.

Also, how I use my shards is irrelevant. If I didn't want them, why would I be on here annoyed as hell that I just lost them? I have at least 9 of each armor item fully master worked and wait until I find something worthier to upgrade, seems reasonable to me! My question is also a reasonable one. Why did they settle on a cap for these at all? It doesn't make sense to me. Instead of making assumptions that this is a "me" problem, maybe try adding constructive criticism or not commenting at all. After all I know for a fact I'm not the only one who is annoyed by this and wants an answer.

Especially at this time of the season (GMs).

Ignore the responses blaming you, it is 100% a Bungie issue. They need to manipulate customers' dopamine in order to get their Sony bonus checks. Obsolescence of old gear, and the resources required to upgrade new gear, is a part of that effort. If existing customers have accumulated too many resources, they might not spend 87 hours per week playing to gain new resources. [Letterkenny]allegedly[\Letterkenny] :|
