Witch Queen was awesome. One of the best expansions in the history of the franchise.
The two seasons, OTOH, have been kind of weak.
IMO, it has nothing to do with the content, and everything to do with an approach to the the game that is starting to wear thin because of broken in-game systems that Bungie has never gotten around to addressing. I addressed this issue on another thread about the game being in a rut, a couple of weeks ago.
The problem is that the game gets stale very quickly during the seasons because the amount of the game that remains relevant becomes very narrow. Because Bungie is trying to over-control and micromanage every aspect of play.
Because of the loot table, and the Milestone/Pinnacle systems, the vast majority of the game really isn't relevant. So you wind up running around in the same narrow band of end-game relevant activities every week....
...and because of content design and the Champions mechanic. You wind up running them with the same small number of loadouts. Because Bungie is using that system as an underhanded way of curating out loadouts.
So there is very little opportunity to interact with the game creatively....and very little freedom within any given season in how we are allowed to play the game.
So the play loop gets really stale, really quickly. As a result I'm finding I'm playing less rather than playing more. But if we were allowed more freedom, I'd probably be motivated to play more.

No problem from anything said here and I personally know people who are turned of from playing when I tell them about the leveling system and mod acquisition. (Build crafting is seriously the best part of this game). From what Info I have been able to gleen from bungies side is this: - Re-working Subclasses (More accurately having to create 9 aspects) Takes a lot of effort and resources from the teams that they have. - It is intentional on their part that what they do to add or change each season, is force limited as to not to over or under deliver for every season that passes. I honestly believe that after we have Arc 3.0, the verb system that they have in place will begin to spread like a wildfire (Just look at skyburners oath, Prometheus lens, wave splitter and the catalyst for Jottun ) for the game and we eventually will be rid of champions once and for all. We have until the final season (2 seasons away) of the witch queen era to be sure though. Most of all I am just glad the story beats have been thrilling and some of the best character interactions between each other since Cayde. Witch is really refreshing...

Agreed. Bungie has limited resources...and limited developmental bandwidth. But the game also has major design flaws that Bungie has been using even MORE deeply flawed systems in the game to try to compensate for. The net effect is that they are slowly strangling the ability of the player to interact creatively with the game in their effort to control what gear we use (in an effort to manage power creep without sunsetting) and their effort to funnel us into certain end-game relevant activities. So people get burned out because they find themselves running in smaller and smaller ciricles each week....for tiny rewards....and with loadouts that they have very little freedom with regards to which weapons they wish to use. Because both seasonal content AND end-game content rely heavily on Champions.

Arisen seasonal content? Yes way too much on champions. Agreed. This seasonal Public event? Only champion I remember seeing is that one "Easily" killed overload champion that spawns in part 1 and 2 of the public event. I don't even need to care about my load out. Not even the story segments had them. Which was honestly so refreshing to see. I have not done the dungeon yet though, I assume it does. On champions as a whole though. I really REALLY hope they learned that that the Witch Queen legendary campaigns difficulty, was tuned perfectly w/o the need for champions. This coming from someone who was ABSOLUTLY dreading the experience! Me and my brother never felt more attuned to fighting at each others side then we ever had before. (Then Elden ring stole him raja fada mejdjd jxjd Sith game!)
