This is going to be a long post, so get coozy… are you ready? yep, you’re ready.
I’ve been looking into everything that made Destiny great and not so great, over the years I’ve noticed patches and changes left and right but at the end of the day these patches don’t exactly do much aside from causing more separation between weapons and abilities while also giving each class said abilities.
Destiny 1 was known very well for it’s unusual metas, most of which were coincidentally Exotics which actually made sense considering they were the best tier available and that only one can be used at a time.
The strikes had Boss specific loot with a weapon and class specific boss armor, which since it’s inception has gone missing since Destiny 2 (The sparrows were a nice touch though).
Raids actually used to drop Sparrows, Ghosts, Ships and shaders with a chance at an exotic (ghallahorn seemingly being tied in to VOG oddly), nowadays we don’t seem to get the full package… we have been missing something for quite awhile haven’t we? Ships… Yeah these things were forgotten for raids, but I’ve also noticed VOW is also seemingly lacking a raid ghost & ship.
Exotics and how each one had a distinction from the last… I remember getting my first exotic in Destiny 1, Necrochasm. It took me hours to turn it into Eidolon Ally, even more to upgrade it. I enjoyed that so I decided to look into others and I wasn’t disappointed. Xander Bounties could give out an Exotic Quest (Which is crazy to think about considering much more Rare exotics are in D2) and every time a new exotic came along there was always something new to each one. You either built it up, did a quest or just earned randomly by playing… not to say BUNGiE hasn’t been trying but i was kinda disappointed to see them re-use thunderlord’s area just to give riskrunner a quest. I asked myself “Why not thunderlord?” It’s an LMG (Very rare in D2, even after they made a few rare LMGs) and it’s a favourite among the classic LMGs of D1, wouldn’t new lights love it too?
Now story wise i got nothing to say, BUNGiE got better at it and that’s kinda it… they actually pulled off a great first season after a DLC this time!
Factions are… yeah, gone. Probably because the 3.0 system doesn’t allow players to simply carry a faction badge like 1.0 did given that 1.0 still seems to be beating 3.0 just by the fact that it felt more meaningful and wasn’t tied to only activities. Oh and the Exotic class item quests, will never be able to forget those rep 25 (or 50) Treats.
Crucible… well, I’ll say this now and save some time. It’s unstable, that’s why nobody likes it. The metas are usually legendaries and builds, nothing simple like Twilight garrison or Icebreaker. Something that actually takes commitment and isn’t roll based, which another thing… Adepts are possibly the biggest perpetrators of metas given how good they are, although I don’t blame them for at least trying to make the lighthouse worthy of existing aside from going to it like that datto club room in the tower.
Anyways, this is the big read… hopefully it wasn’t too long. Who knows maybe you’ll learn a thing or two if you’re a new light.

1 ReplyWhat it really comes down to is, there really aren't many games that do what Destiny does. It's got pvp, pve, pvpve, coop, raids, dungeons, customization, unique gear, builds. I mean pvp only multiplayer games is only fun for so long and I think we are entering an Era were gamers are getting board with just pvp. I mean I used to love pvp games like halo 3 and call of duty, but as I got older and matured I very quickly realized they are all about the same and only fun for so long. Destiny has lots to do and lots to chase giving you lots of replay value.
