When I logged in for the first time to play today, the name I've used in Destiny 2 for the last year and a half or so, Radiolarian -blam!- (I know what you're thinking, and no they're a type of dawning biscuit), was automatically changed without prior warning to "Guardian bunchanumbers". I was not made aware upon starting the game that my steam name would automatically be taken and locked in place, or given ample opportunity to change my steam name. I have since learned that there were popups in-game and on the bungie website for weeks prior to crossplay going live, but I have not played since halfway through last season, so there's no way I could have known this.
furthermore, per the screenshot included, there have been no changes to the Bungie ToS in a year, yet I have played Destiny 2 with the screenname 'Radiolarian -blam!-' since that time with no issue, despite other names with profane or otherwise unacceptable names being censored and turned into asterisks in-game. Even if I had known about the changes to names coming with crossplay, how would I have known that my existing name would suddenly be considered against ToS when it previously was fine?
I understand this wasn't a decision made by any particular individual, but as someone who's played the game for a long time with the same name it feels like an undeserved punishment, and being forced to be called "guardian" without the opportunity to change names even once is detrimental to the player experience. is there seriously nothing that can be done until "the future" comes or am I just stuck being a default character?

My name also got switched, I had it set to Big Ounce before and then they changed it without warning or an option to type a new one.
