Beyond Light looks nice...but is it a bad deal?
I've recently been really split about how to feel about Beyond Light. I was done being hyped Destiny, especially after Shadowkeep. But after the ViDoc and all the information that has come out, I'm a little excited (mostly cause I'm a lore and story nerd for Destiny). But now, I've regressed back to being worried for a number of reasons.
Some things we have learned in the past weeks and months is that the expansion will remove a lot of Destiny 2's current content, but will not replace it all in Beyond Light. That means Bungie is removing more content than they can give. To be fair, not many of these activities will be missed. However...
Beyond Light will not be larger than Forsaken. That is coming from Luke Smith. Not to mention that, in the trailer for Beyond Light, if you look at the map for the returning Cosmodrome, its not even the full map from D1 if I saw it correctly. That on top of all our gear getting sunset, which will remove so many good armor sets and weapons for not much in return. A lot of the bigger things like transmog, aren't even coming in Beyond Light. Basically, this is just looking like a far worse version of Destiny 3.
Mind you, this expansion is the price of Forsaken. And unlike Shadowkeep, which gave you the season for free just for buying it, you have to buy the season with Beyond Light this time.
I understand that coronavirus messed up a lot of things, but I'm not sure if that can excuse the terrible deal with this expansion.
Bungie says they are building Destiny's future now, but how long do we have to wait for that, and how much money do they want to do it? I don't want to buy everything up to Lightfall just for the game to be what it is now. At this point, Destiny has become a investment for a lot of players, with little pay off.
Worse case scenario, Beyond Light will only hurt Destiny further, and I will be skipping every season until Witch Queen if that's the case (might even skip that if its garbage as well). I'm already piss off about sunsetting.

11 RepliesHere’s how I look at it: - They’re reducing the file size of the game by almost 30 gigs. This is a godsend. - They’re taking the story in a crazy direction and I love it. - They’re finally adding the long-speculated darkness subclass. - They’re revamping progression systems so casual players like me will get more loot and bright dust playing what we want, rather than farming bounties and tokens on all characters. - Sunsetting is regrettable, and I would have preferred they make pinnacles into exotics and called it a day. However, I don’t find it a big deal. Almost all of the guns will be back sooner or later, and until then I’m more than happy to spend a few weeks building a perfect loadout for the next year of gameplay. I’ve already got my Hunter dialed in. Next season will see my Warlock and Titan get a little love. I know some people are bothered by it, but overall it’s not a big deal, because I feel most players switch their load outs often enough to where this won’t cause a problem. All I want is for Collections to be revamped so they’re actually usable and the game will be in it’s best state since Forsaken. [spoiler]Sorry, all out of salt.[/spoiler]

No, I dont think its worth the price tag. Luckily I have gamepass so I might play it for a month then get bored of it and uninstall it.

This is the first expansion I wont buy, i'll just do the free stuff. They are taking away to much stuff I paid for when this game launched.

It’s priced like a new game... I’ll buy a new game for that price. A full new game. Dlc should be $20 maybe $25. Forsaken was cheaper than BL. And bigger. Let the fanboys give their money to Bungie. I’m going on the ftp side and milk this thing for free.

I predict it'll be as good as rise of iron to slightly better. But the price will be a big setback. So not as good as forsaken or TTK but not as bad as shadowkeep. Rise of iron cost 30 dollars.

Lowkey, this expansion price is not worth it considering what we are getting. I just did the thing with game pass on Xbox that if you buy 12 months of gold and upgrade to Game Pass Ultimate you can get 14 months if you opt for automatic payment. I paid $75 dollars instead of $210 to have Game Pass until 01/2022. There are a -blam!- ton of good games on Game Pass and guess what? Beyond light is there. So if you're on Xbox, go for Gamepass, you can get Beyond Light and a crap ton of other good games for dirt cheap on top of paying for the free games and deals you get with Gold and online play. Its the best deal out there and means once the expansion comes out you only need to just buy the $10 season.

Considering TTK was $40 and it gave us a new subclass, a huge pile of brand new exotics and a new area that we couldn't use our sparrow in, I'd say its alright. However, Forsaken was an awesome expansion, but it didn't add new subclasses, just supers, but it did add 2 new large areas and a lot albeit less exotics then TTK So its really up to you on whether this expansion is worth it, I'll buy it if people say its good.

Eh I mean if you use this game for a boredom killer when there’s nothing else to do then it’s a safe buy

The Witch Queen better be immaculate, especially because it's probably gonna be delayed until 2022 at this rate. Otherwise it seriously begs the question of where it is all going. They keep making promises about how changes like vaulting worlds will see the game become easier to work on and thus lead to more content, but those benefits remain to be seen. If over the next year they still fail to prove it, I'm going to start seriously questioning putting my money into Destiny. Bet it's all going into that other project of theirs.

4 RepliesIt’s not a good deal if you’re looking at strictly quantity of content, but still leaves room for quality of content. I disliked the idea of the DCV but I understand why it’s a thing. As awesome as it is to be able to travel to all these planets at will and explore whenever I want to, the thing is I never actually do. I don’t ever go to these old planets unless I’m doing a specific task there. I would much rather have that space be cleared out for relevant content in the future. I don’t like the idea of strikes and crucible maps having to leave though...

Not a bad deal at all Sony is getting ready to sell weekend rentals for $70-$90 People in the states will pay $70 for a base game that will be beaten in 3 days...no pvp, no playing with friends... Yeah bungie prices are fair imo

2 RepliesYes. It’s shaping up to be a decent expansion, but it isn’t a good value. It costs more than Forsaken, and Luke Smith just confirmed its significantly smaller than Forsaken.
