Hey!
Something been really bugging my mind recently: most of the instructions on how to install Destiny 2 onto your next gen consoles make it sound like you purchased the game digital/free-to-play. I still play Destiny 2 on the physical copy I got 3 years ago at launch. Will I still get the next gen upgrade if I play the game with the physical PS4 disc via backwards compatibility on the PS5, or will I have to download it from the PSN store on the PS5 and it’ll remember my characters and everything via my PSN/Bungie accounts??

After all the updates that have been applied, the game installed on your console is no longer the game you installed from the disc itself. Because Destiny 2 is now free to play, you can easily uninstall your current disc-installed version then install Destiny 2's digitally-licensed version from the platform store with no ill effects; and as a bonus, you'll no longer need the disc in to play. Your save data is not part of the disc install; the save data is stored on Bungie's servers and linked directly with your PSN ID. Uninstalling your current version and installing the digitally-licensed version will not mess with your save data. I cannot confirm that you'll be able to use the disc version on the PS5 through backwards compatibility, but I know you'll be able to use the digital version.
