Not to critque your writing, but footwork, turning with your heel leaves you off balance.
U.S. military "to the rear" is done with the toes, to plant the heel.
"About face" is a different animal, with the right foot hooking around.
Granted, these are militia, but I figured I'd drop two cents for your own reference.

No worries, I always appreciate constructive feedback and criticism :) Lol that’s true that most ways of turning on your heel wreck your balance, but the normal way it’s done is perfectly stable (trust me I tested it as soon as u brought it up lol) and it’s used pretty commonly in writing to express a quick turn anyway Hate to break it to u but these clowns aren’t even militia, they’re just a group of back alley gunslingers with one equally incompetent man in charge given the title “squad leader” just so that they have some basic chain of command. I didn’t know that stuff about “to the rear” and “about face” though, I’ll definitely use that knowledge if I ever write a military story so thanks bud 👍 your cents are always welcome
