A logical next step for Zavala.

When November comes around, we already know we'll be granted the power of Stasis. The darkness itself. We'll gain these power and most probably be the ones to harness both Light and Dark without falling into darkness completely. Question is. "What does this have to do with Zavala?" Let me tell you my thoughts on exactly that. It's no secret that Zavala is looking trust in the Traveler, in the Light. He's grown very doubtful over time. Pair this with everything we've achieved. We aren't just 'a guardian'. We're 'the' guardian. Day's after being revived we stepped into the Black Garden and killed the very thing that was stopping the Traveler from healing. We stopped threats like Crota and his father Oryx. The Vex in the Vault of Glass? We went down there to stop what they were doing. When the Fallen harnessed Siva, we did what the Iron Lords couldn't, then became an Iron Lord ourselves. We were the first guardian to reclaim our power, our light, and with that we helped lead the charge towards taking back our home, the last city. When Calus called upon us, we answered and we impressed him. When Riven, the last known Ahamkara needed putting down, we went ripped out her heart. Not to mention returning to the Black Garden when Eris called upon us. All of this, and even now, as we go forwards towards Europa, it seems to be up to us again to lead the charge towards the unknown. This isn't to say that Zavala hasn't had his triumphs, because he has. What I'm saying is, what if over time Zavala has grown jealous of us, the guardian. This is what I think is going to happen: We travel to Europa and after some time, harness the darkness, we harness Stasis. We return to the tower and obviously Zavala finds out, that being if he hasn't already. This is the tipping point for Zavala. Gaining this knowledge pushes him to the dark. He is the first guardian we see who has fallen completely to the Darkness. All Zavala now knows is hatred for us. The guardian who he feels, took everything from him. If you've read all off this then I sincerely thank you! I may have gotten some things wrong but I appreciate you for reading non the less. Have a wonderful day!

  • I doubt he would do anything. If you look to see what he has done in other circumstances its essentially.... well nothing. Zavala opposing Us mingling with Rasputin in D1 and him opposing Ana Bray and us with Zavala has been the destiny equivalent of a strongly worded email. He complained yet did nothing. In D1 he was no fan of Eris Morn arriving yet did nothing. Didnt want revenge for Cayde. We said we were handling it. He did nothing. Didnt like us mingling with the Awoken Queen, did nothing Didnt approve of Osiris, did nothing. When the drifter arrived. Complained and didnt like it but basically said "well keep an eye on him" and thats it. He is apt to use the tools he didnt like when needed, rasputin against the almighty and the pyramids, Eris and drifter for their research into the pyramids ect. Zavala is a toned down Karen. Nothing more

This would be Zavala's reaction when we come back to the Tower with Stasis.
Always brush your teeth.
• I don’t think Zavala would be jealous. He’d more likely be either terrified and would highly oppose us. I mean you’re right about how we’re THE guardian whose saved the city countless times and who slayed all those “Gods” for the last 6 years, canon wise we’re probably the most powerful guardian in Zavala’s eyes, and the fact that we would have to turn to the darkness to fight our new enemy? I would be scared shitless if I were him, because he knows if the time comes, hopefully it doesn’t, and we succumb to the seduction of the darkness and turn evil, he won’t be strong enough to stop us. And that is why he would be extremely opposed to the possibility, not jealousy, it’ll probably take some time for him to get over it, but I expect him to be watching our every move from now on.

      • Seeing one of the quest steps in Exodus Evacuation featuring Zavala saying "blah blah blah Rasputin dead and the Traveler did nothing". Got me like "ooooh shit". But here's the thing, what if he doesn't waver, but it's Savathun trying to sabotage our relationship. Can never tell. If he does turn, then based off of his recent dialogue about faith and his faith in us, I'm betting he'll do the old betrayal but come back to our side deciding that he can replace his broken faith in the Traveler with his faith in us.

      • Would make perfect sense for Zavala to blow a fuse if we come back to the Tower wielding Stasis. He’s lived through the time of Dredgen Yor, he’s seen what the Dark can do to a Guardian. Unfortunately though I am led to believe Shin’s stance on the matter was correct. We need Guardians willing and capable of wielding the Dark and turning it against itself if we are to win.

        • I doubt bungie would do such a thing, but I really, REALLY want this to be true. Then we can have an excuse to -er- "take care " of the blue boy. Fighting Dark Zavala would be the best raid ever.

          • Huh, sounds like an interesting idea. Pretty sure Zavala is more proud of us than jealous though. I mean, honestly, I don’t care much for Big Blue. Sure, he’s had his moments and helped me out a few times, but his next step could be off the side of the Tower as far as I’m concerned.

            • I don't think Zavala is jealous of us. Proud of us more than anything, but I doubt he's jealous. The guy's is just weary and depressed from years of work and stress, and we know it's been really getting to him over the last 3 years. I think what is more likely is that Zavala will scold us for using Stasis because it's an unknown power from our biggest enemy, but eventually resign from his initial thoughts over time either by watching us control it, or by him eventually realizing that Light alone isn't enough to defeat our enemies.

                • Somehow I doubt this. Zavala is a strategist, the king on the chessboard. Useful for many things but overshadowed by his most powerful piece, the Guardian, his queen. He is perfectly happy to let his queen win battles for him as he will be content winning the war.
Sorry, all out of salt.
