Eververse and Unnecessary RNG hold Destiny 2 back.

Eververse and unnecessary RNG hold this game back by doing one key thing: Removing the value player investment from the experience. Humor me here. Imagine you see a player with an exotic ornament. What if instead of going "Huh. Looks like he dropped $10.", you went "Holy crap. That guy has 1000 precision kills in PvP with that thing." What if when you see a guy with an awesome ship or sparrow, it's an indication of a really hard triumph he completed, rather than dropping bright dust or silver. What if you could directly unlock weapon attachments (special mod slots in this case), or be granted the ability to change one perk one time on a gun by investing time in it? By getting experience with it? What if you could directly influence the stat distribution on your armor of choice by gaining experience with it, rather than grind activites over and over again for the right roll? (Adjusting a good roll would he cheaper than adjusting a roll with an even split, so there would still be value to good rolls and high stat totals.) What if our ability to really fine tune our build was primarily affected by our investment, rather than RNG? What if Banshee served as an auction house where you can put up your weapons or see other weapons for sale from other players? What if you could put up a God roll Summoner in exchange for a Spare Rations with the a roll of your choice? My points are that: 1. Eververse is literally filled with enough items that some of them can be turned into earned rewards. Logically, Eververse can't be removed entirely, but vanity items can still be split between Eververse and earned items, or the amount of things Eververse sells could remain the same, but much more vanity items are added into the game that can be earned. 2. While RNG does have a place in this game, it doesn't need to be the only factor affecting player builds and experience.

  • Not exactly as it's Bungie and their lack of vision and poor coding skills that make this game feel like a beta release rather than AAA title game. It's shameful

  • Bungie isnt going to remove those items from Eververse when there are a large amount of players willing to spend money on them.

    • Eververse has been an issue most of D2. They actually had a pretty good balance back near the start when you could realistically play to earn almost all of it and there were onlly a few exclusive silver items. It worked as well because Bungie were able to fund the cost of zero hour just through the whisper ornaments alone. As a player I was quite happy to drop the odd purchase here and there to get a headstart on my collection and I felt that my time invested into the game was being rewarded by being able to play to earn. The problem - they got greedy. Bungie are very selective about the figures they release, however I've seen a few independent industry reports suggest last year Bungie made about $300million just off MTX. This goes far beyond supplementing the game and instead just into turning it into a milking machine, and the base game is the worse for it. It won't change either - they are making money and players, for the most part, let them do this so why would they? RNG does belong in a game like this but a lot of the time it feels like it's there for the sake of making players grind more than is fun. It's also really inconsistent from one season to another. Example, Menagerie and Sundial; modes where you could target what you wanted to farm and players seemed to be pretty postive about this. This season - Umbral engrams that instead have a 50/50 chance on the weapon you want. Why? I've personally found this really frustrating when trying to farm certain weapons and it's just aggrevated by previous modes letting you pick your reward and now you're back to RNG deciding for you. It feels like bungie don't really know how to handle this and just try something new every season to see what happens.

        • Eververse simply jacked this game all up. All that cool lookin sh*t you can’t have unless you pay Corporate Commander!!!! All that stuff could’ve been added into the game as rewards but no.... I was simi OK with earning engrams to to turn in after maxing out xp. At least that left you with the potential to earn everything in the Eververse market. Now you only get a few of those engrams per sEaSoN and you mostly only get sh*t out of them.

          • I wish you still had to use a gun to unlock its perks, or at least exotics. They could do something similar where once you get a certain amount of kills with a weapon, you can go to Banshee and change the Masterwork.

              • Have you ever met rich people who have extra cash to burn and they use it the way they like? I don't condone Eververse or mtx but its IP to people what they do. I see people having fun being paid carried to flawless or in raids. Its their entertainment. There are emblems to show off tour skills and Eververse to show off your pocket. Both of these are not mutually exclusive so each to their own.

#2 is the reason I am giving up. Last week ran 3 pinnacles on my base level 1054 Warlock and had all 3 drop boots at 1054 which I already had. Started getting the itch to play last night, hopped on my base level 1053 Titan ran 3 strikes and had a 1054 energy drop. That would've been cool but I already had 2 1055 weapons on character which both had dropped last week on a GoS run. Got up this morning and ran crucible to only have yet another 1054 energy drop. I gave up on my Hunter weeks ago because all I ever get is weapon drops since hitting the soft cap.

                  • That pretty much just boils down to a crafting system. If destiny wants to be an mmo it needs to just bite the bullet and add crafting. Grinding for masterwork materials is stupid in best of cases and ultimately just a means to artificially extend playtime for people who want something a little extra.

                    • Yeah I get we hate eververse. But uh... I'm not gonna bang my head against a wall for hours in a GM nightfall for an ornament. Not saying they shouldn't be in the game, because they 100% should. Just that, GM nightfalls(just as an example) not having eververse stuff isn't the reason I'm not playing them.

I would pretty much not EVER buy anything from everworse (for silver) in a near-absolute sense just because it is so sleazy that I would never want to look like a tool that would spend money there. The RNG is batshit insane for a game that moves on as fast as Destiny does. We should be able to reroll masterworks on weapons and armor should have at least SMALL, partial "stat-sliders" so we can "fix" the frustrating situations where we have a really nice armor set but one stat is at a "9" and other stats have "extra."

                      • Honestly they should get rid of blue gear at this point. Just have legendary drops. There is just way to much garbage in the game.

                        • That’s not going to encourage people to spend money at Eververse. It’s going to actively discourage it, so (unfortunately) is unlikely to happen.

                          • Honestly, the biggest thing is Bungie reliant on making end game content 'challenging' by adding artificial difficulty and making our grinding mean nothing. No Looter Shooter or MMO I have played does this... and it has failed every time they try it or has been tried in this genre of game. How did Prestige Raids go? How is GM nightfalls going? How is Anthem doing? I rest my case.

                          • They are taking armour sets out of eververse and making it earn able in game. That’s more than enough they need to make money off cosmetics so that’s fine. Of course I would like everything to be earnable in game but that’s very unrealistic. RNG is fine they already weight certain things to help and we have systems to hand select what type of loot we want. The Umbral system is an example of this. I know it’s limited but it’s still a way to reducing rng
