D.F.A. 1st Annual Writing Contest
The winner is: ChickenPopTarts Congratulations! This contest is now closed. Thanks to everyone who participated! You all did an excellent job and I look forward to seeing more of your writing! If you haven’t already, I recommend reading all the entries. The writers have written wonderful entries that all deserve a read. It was great seeing the fruits of this event and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves! With any luck we can pull this off again next year!
Today, May 30th, we once again celebrate the anniversary of the Destiny Fiction Archive. The Archive is a collection of hundreds of stories written by hundreds of writers within the Bnet community. Because the Archive represents so much of the Bnet writing community, today is a day to celebrate all you wonderful writers out there, new and old! Thank you for sharing your stories with this community and giving us so many amazing things to read! Previously we haven’t done anything to celebrate, but this year I will be hosting a writing contest. Makes sense, right? Celebrating writing by getting writers to write? The winner will be permanently featured on the Main Page of the Archive with their username and links to their work.
Below you will find the rules and info for the contest. A writing prompt is provided below, and your entry must follow it. Entries do not need to contain any Destiny content because this contest is for all Bnet writers, including OffTopic. You are encouraged to write a Destiny-themed story, in spirit of this being the Destiny community, but it will not affect your chance of winning. Note that the prompt for this contest is designed to work for Destiny stories but with room to be used for non-Destiny content.
RULES
•The contest ends June 13th at 12:00am EST. Meaning all entries need to be submitted before the 13th. •Contest entries must clearly contain elements from the prompt provided in this post. •One entry per person. You can edit your entry up until the end of the contest, so make the most of any feedback you get. •Entries must be submitted to this post. You can either directly put the story in the comments on this post, or make your story elsewhere (like Google Docs, Wattpad, a Bnet post, or any other site for writing) and share a link in the comments of this post. You can also submit by using #dfa on your Bnet post. •There is no size limit for entries. Quality is much more important than quantity. •No NSFW. Slight inappropriateness will be tolerated, but use discretion. •No stealing other people’s work. Your submission must be your original work. •No submitting preexisting work. You must write a new short story following the prompts for the contest. If you wish to make an entry that somehow breaks this rule, discuss it with me and perhaps we can negotiate, but at the cost of you being unlikely to win this contest.
ADDITIONAL INFO; RULE DETAILS
•The winner will most likely be announced on June 13th, though there is a possibility that it will be announced on a later day. The announcement will be made on this post, and I will send messages to all participants to announce when the results are in. •If you wish to have easy access to this post to find later, you can follow #dfa or any of my other hashtags such as #fictionarchive and #KS27. Or you can ask for me to PM you a link to this post. You can also keep in contact by joining the Bnet writing community’s Discord server, the Destiny Fiction Server: https://discord.gg/PJF3p8U •I encourage you to write an entry even if you don’t think you can win! Everyone has a chance of winning, and even if you don’t win at least your story will be out for people to read. Everyone will be able to give you feedback on your writing, and you may pick up a few readers who will be interesting in reading any other stories you make. •If you make a post on Bnet you can use #dfa to connect your work to the Archive. Any stories using #dfa will be seen and judged. Of course, any preexisting stories that already use the hashtag will not be judged because they aren’t part of the contest. •I, along with foxburton99, will be judging the entries. We might participate in this event and submit our own entries for fun, but these will not be considered for the judging. We will have no chance of winning. Big thanks to foxburton99 for helping in the judging and giving up his chance to get on the Archive’s main page. •There is no size limit for entries. You can make them as short or long as you like. Quality is much more important than quantity. Extremely short stories may lack enough content to win and overly long stories will not give you a higher chance of winning. Try to keep your entries at less than 30,000 characters (the capacity of 3 Bnet posts) because any more than that isn’t necessary and might be ignored. Don’t overdue it, this is for short stories, not novels. If you wish to extend or continue your story, you can always do so outside the contest. For example, you can write 3 chapters of a story and submit 1 of them. •I highly recommend that you don’t type up your entry in one shot and immediately submit it. Take your time writing, look over it to see how it turned out, improve it and make corrections, then submit it. You have 2 whole weeks! Take the time to make sure your story turns out the best it can be. I don’t want to get all the entries in the first three days then watch as everyone constantly edits and re-edits their stories to correct errors that could have been avoided. A good practice is to not type your story directly into a comment/post. Start somewhere else, like in a Notes/Notepad app or Google Docs or Microsoft Word, where you don’t have to write everything all in one go. There’s no need to write everything all in one shot. Take your time, step away then come back later and look over or continue your work, and when it’s ready copy and paste it as your submission.
PROMPT
Entries must clearly follow this prompt. You are free to interpret the prompt in any way as long as it’s influence and presence is clear in your story. It doesn’t necessarily have to be the primary focus of your story, but must be a highly influential factor.
PROMPT: Conflict between factions of the same species.
This can be a conflict with or without violence. For some examples within Destiny: Conflict between City Factions (violent or simply political tension), rivalry between Fallen Houses, Cabal factions at war, etc. Yes, you can use these examples, and there are plenty of specific examples in Destiny lore that you can use. Or you can come up with your own ideas. Edit: To clarify, the prompt asks for a “group vs group” theme. It’s perfectly fine to have a story that’s even 1 vs 1 as long as they represent different groups or affiliations. Having a story focused on lone characters with no affiliations at all will hurt your chances of winning the contest.
The D.F.A. 1st Annual Writing Contest has begun, get writing and have fun! Thanks again to all the writers in this community!

It took me a long time to think about this so here it is:
|Data Inbound| Time: 5 hours after the Almighty crashed (Basically Season 11) Five guardians stood in the main meeting room of the Tower. One of them was a Titan, two were warlocks, and two of them were hunters. The Titan was wearing armor with Hive runes on it. The two warlocks glowed with Arc and Solar energies; Meanwhile the two hunters just stood in the corner, silent. Then the crackling of fire was heard and one of the warlocks stepped forwards to the front of the table. “By the decision of the Praxic Order we are gathered here o discuss the coming threat.” The warlock said The Titan then stepped up to stand beside him. “Indeed we are, the Darkness, as we all know, has arrived in our system. We are to combat it to the best of our abilities. This meeting has been called to discuss any plans that the Guardian Collective might have.” Then the other warlock, who was named Maelstrom, spoke. “I suggest we make a frontal assault against the enemy, throw everything that we have at it.” He said “That is a plausible idea, though it has a major flaw. By throwing all of our resources at this threat we are allowing the City to be open to attack by the remnants of the Eliksni or the Red Legion.” Karov responded Then the two hunters stepped out of the corner, one of them was an Awoken man, and the other was an Eliksni. The Eliksni was the first of the two of them to say anything. “I shall remedy the problem with House Dusk, they hate the Darkness as much as we do.” It said “With all due respect Rulis, I’ll have to put that option out our current situation. We’ll have to do it some other time.” Karov told the Eliksni “Well, I guess that’s it, so what now?” The other hunter said “We part ways, our days as a fireteam are over, we’ve had our good times and our bad. I’ll see you all sometime later, though most likely never.” Paradox replied Then the five of them walked out of the meeting room and went their separate ways from that point onwards.
I decided I would write something though I won't be really active for a while longer. The Story:
Two men stood in the middle of a vast, dark hall. Hung about it were tapestries depicting the decisive victories and defeats of humanity against the forces of the Dark. One of the men was on the short side and wore a long cloak over gleaming plates of armor. A mask that seemed to be made of polished silver covered his face. The other wore no mask, instead, he had dark, long hair that hung down the sides of his face. His eyes glittered in the darkness of the hall. The face that the hair hung over was heavily scarred and looked to be old and weary of life as it had become, but also had the look of one determined to survive to the end of all days. They argued, each seemingly giving his all to persuade the other against his course of action. “You should not meddle in what you do not understand.” This from the man with the silver helm, with a voice deep and booming through the hall. “If you do not tread carefully and with wisdom it will devour your mind and body. Who you are will become like shards in a dark night, only surfacing when someone dares to shine a light on you. That is not survival, it is torment eternal.” “But I do understand, who I am will not become like shards in the night. I will not fall as others have before.” The man in the silver helm sighed. “Many have spoken the words that leave your mouth, all of them have fallen. The new Dredgens, the Shadows of Yor, Yor himself, all fell. Most were very powerful and what most would consider wise.” “If none try then none shall discover. My mind is made, neither you nor your friends in the Tower can convince me otherwise. You are like a brother to me Vendir, but I cannot stand and watch you and all others die. This is my path, if I fall to ruin so be it. But let others try until one succeeds, because someone always does.” The man with the long hair looked at the floor when he finished speaking. “I will not stop you by force if you go down this path, not until you have been consumed. But please! I implore you to think harder and see what I see. Folly! That's what I see, folly!” “I have thought Vendir, and I have made up my mind. Others stand with me, ready to do what is necessary, and to end the threat I become if I fail.” “You would sunder the unity of the Tower for this?” The man with the long hair finally raised his gaze from the floor and stared Vendir in the eyes. “It is the only way. Through fire, we will be strengthened.” “Or burned. Do not be so hasty to throw away that which we have built.” “I leave,” and the man with the long hair did. But before he was gone he called over his shoulder, “If I fail remember these words. ‘Forgive what I have done, and never forget what I was.’” “I will remember these until the end of my days.” The door shut, not with a banging as Vendir expected, but with a soft thud. He hung his head and wondered what would become of his dear friend. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Six months later… Vendir’s silver helm reflected the multifaceted light of the opulent chandelier that hung above him. It was out of place in the midst of a room made of harsh, cold concrete walls, but it was there. He supposed it was in the nature of greedy men to surround themselves with as much wealth as could be mustered. He stood in the center of the room, people sat in many tiered seats that rose near the ceiling. All of them seemed to have some importance to the functions of the Last City on Earth. The Vanguard was present as well as the Speaker and the heads of all the most influential factions in the City. In the center with him stood a man he used to know well. But now he knew not what he had become. His long hair had been haphazardly cut into a short hairstyle of varying length around his head. His eyes shone with a new malevolence behind them in the light of the chandelier. The voice he spoke with, having once been soft and careful, was replaced with a harsher voice. Though dripping with charisma it was, there was no disguising a change that had taken place in his heart. The Changed Man spoke to the assembled personages. “You must see, my friends of the City, that I am not evil. No shadow has taken possession of my heart, no splinter of the Dark has lodged itself in my skull. I am pure and my purpose is the same as ever. There is a way to protect all of us.” The Speaker held up his hand for silence. “This is the twelfth time you have attempted to convince us of this, yet each time we doubt you a string of venomous insults is hurled from your mouth. There is no doubt something unwholesome had taken up residence in your heart. We have seen your actions and your defense has proven not to consist of facts but of opinion. You commit murder and thievery against those you would call your friends, and spread the corruption of the Dark. In light of that we must remove you as a threat to the Last City. Sadly, death is the only sure and effective method.” “Then at least permit me one last request.” “We will hear it, but do not be under the impression it will be accepted.” “I formally submit a request that Vendir be my executioner. He has represented your views to me and been a stand in for you and your associates from the City. Therefore I request that as the one who was present at the beginning of the conflict, be the one to finish it.” The Speaker looked to Vendir who slowly, and reluctantly, nodded his head. “Vendir will carry out this last request.” As Vendir and the Changed Man were walked to the chambers of execution the Changed Man spoke to Vendir. Though this time he sounded as he once did, “I have failed, but never forget who I once was.” When the time came and Vendir summoned every shred of his will to carry out what had been laid before him. Before he delivered the death blow he said his parting words, “You are forgiven.” The Changed Man who had once been his friend glanced at him one more time and drew in a deep breath. He had failed to do what he had wished to do, as the death blow came he felt the shadow overtake him. Then the end came.
Cool, I haven't tried fan fic before but here's something I whipped together. If people like it then I'll continue the story. Here's chapter one:
*Crack!* The sound of the legendary golden gun piercing it’s target echoed through the surrounding mountains. The Guardian sighed as he holstered his weapon, staring at the remaining ashes of his adversary. He was getting tired of this. His attacker was a carrier of the light. They almost always are. He had fought so many of them that by now he was an expert at avoiding them. But still, he found himself in more encounters then he would like. “I guess that’s another failed attempt at claiming your bounty.” His ghost said, trying to make small talk. “It would seem  that way” He replied. He never delivered their final deaths. They thought what they were doing was right. He respected them for that. It’s all any Guardian can do. "Do you think the others are doing well?" His ghost asked. The Guardian didn't respond. He was one of the last of his creed. Most of the others had been hunted down. He didn’t want to think about what happened to them. What happened because of him. He would often think of what would have happened if he turned himself in. If it would've saved his allies, his friends. His ghost would’ve scolded him for thinking like that. But his ghost didn’t quite understand. His ghost had assured him that what happened wasn’t his fault, that he had no choice. But his ghost didn’t know the full story. Nobody did. Nobody except him. He could still remember it like it was yesterday. Confronting his friend on that cosmodrome wall. Only one Guardian left that wall, and the Vanguard figured what happened to the other. He’s been on the run ever since. He’s battled with Guardians from almost every faction you could think of. And he still wasn’t finished fighting. He didn’t want to bring the others into this. This problem was his. He should’ve been the one captured, not them. “Come on,” his ghost said “we should get going while he’s still dead.” He turned around to continue onto his destination, if you could call it that. The Guardian didn’t know where he was going. He just had to go somewhere. He continued on for what felt like hours until he found a decent spot to settle for the night. He didn’t like travelling during the night. Not after the horrors he had seen. Guardians didn’t need sleep, but he found himself exhausted. He didn’t know if it was because he actually was tired, or if it was because he needed something to do, something to take his mind off of his guilt. But either way, the Guardian found himself closing his eyes, only for just a minute… “You are under arrest by the authority of the Praxic Order!” The Guardian woke with a start. It was already morning, and he found himself under the trained sight of a handcannon. He groaned, rubbing his eyes as he sat up. “Couldn’t you have done this five minutes later?” He said with a yawn. The Praxic warlock threw down a set of handcuffs, unamused. “Put these on, you’re coming with me.” She said. “Listen,” he said “I’ve dealt with a lot of you warlocks.” The warlock remained unmoving. “So if you think I’m just going to give up and leave just because-” *Crack!* “That’s a new one.” His ghost said, as the Guardian's world faded to black.
Edit: put in spoiler so it doesnt take up a lot of space. Edit 2: rewrote the story a bit to give the protagonist a faction.

MCXXXI, Forthcoming. Recorded by Scribe Shagac. And so it was that the forces of the great Emperor Calus slew the final remnant of the Red Legion. As the end of all things neared, the grand Emperor looked upon the great system of Sol and saw but one blemish on an otherwise perfect system. That blight was the Red Legion, the remnant of the traitorous Ghaul's ambitions. So the Emperor of joy summoned his finest Cabal warriors and made a resounding proclamation. "My warriors, slayers of the greatest armies, you have fought well under my rule! And to see you to remain loyal after all that has occured fills my heart with great exuberance! But now, I must ask of you one final thing. Slay the remaining tatters of the Red Legion. Wipe them from our great system, tear them limb from limb if you must, my champions! Now go! Make your Emperor proud!" And at these words, the ever loyal army of Emperor Calus moved to destroy the Red Legion forevermore. The Red Legion stood no chance against the jubilant Emperor's armada, which numbered in 5 billion soldiers+. The quashing of the cowardly Red Legion was so great that the few remaining foes that clinged to the Legion fled to a final base upon Mars, where the Emperor's forces eagerly searched them out. The battle that ensued was so powerful and gracious that no written word could describe the beauty of the slaughter of the Red Legion. And at the end of the battle, the leader of the Legion, the one named Kulvil++, was left alone. And so the coward Kulvil was kept alive and taken aboard the Leviathan, where he was placed before the great and opulent Emperor. The Emperor looked upon the shriveled form of the Cabal leader and began to laugh so tremendously that the Leviathan trembled with the Emperor's joy. And once the Emperor finished his bout of laughter he stood and said to the hapless Centurion, "Stand tall, my foe, stand proud, my great enemy. For you have made a great achievement, one that will be remembered until the end!" And so the wretch looked upon the beautiful Emperor, a sin in itself, and asked, "And what may this be, great Emperor?" And the Emperor smiled and simply said, "You are the last festering slime that will stand under the banner of the Red Legion." And reaching down, the Emperor crushed the head of Kulvil. And the system of Sol was perfect. +The scribe employed at this future date shall please verify the number of soldiers that the great Emperor commands at the time of occurrence.
