My Review of: The Passive Guard Mod (please make this a permanent addition (lol)) and the Warden of Nothing Master Nightfall Ordeal

I had a blast today. I did my easiest run of Garden of Salvation ever, went flawless in Trials on my third card and then 3-manned the Master Nightfall Ordeal. Also tested a PvE build which I decided that I really love. Let's talk about the Passive Guard mod. What does it do? When you're holding a sword, you take reduced damage from enemies that are nearby you. It is a very comfortable distance for the mod to work and it allows you to close in on your targets more aggressively without taking too much damage from them. What kind of damage reduction are we talking about here? Well, Champion and Boss melees are a lot less scarier while you are utilizing this mod. It is more potent than Barrier mods and it can stack with other defense bonuses. It even stacks with the sword guard itself. I imagine if you run it with Stronghold, you become quite the tank. I made a build that utilizes that mod and some Charged with Light mechanics to become quite a menace to PvE enemies up close. It also uses Sword Ammo Finder, Enhanced Sword Scavenger, Better Already, Warlock Devour and a masterworked sword. The mod the build revolves around for Charged with Light is Taking Charge. Multikills with the sword generate Orbs for yourself, which picking them up activate High-Energy Fire for damage and Striking Light on kills after being charged to generate extra Orbs for teammates and grant the passive Uncatchable perk, which grants increased damage resistance while sprinting. If I am charged, I also have Protective Light, which consumes all stacks of Charged with Light after losing shields and grants significant damage resistance for a short time (works best with a coordinated team). There is a lot to this build that goes to buffing your sword damage, generating a ton of Orbs for teammates and making sure that you stay alive. I was able to run around like a lunatic with a sword while soloing the Legend Nightfall Ordeal and lived so many ridiculous scenarios. Speaking of the Nightfall Ordeal... Let's talk about the Master Nightfall Ordeal this week, the Warden of Nothing strike. I'm pretty sure there is no better place to find Champions and chaos than in this particular Nightfall Ordeal. Like, whoa. CHAMPIONS. That was probably the most chaotic Nightfall I've ever done since Shadowkeep launched. Let's see here. For the encounters, it goes from one Champion to one to two to two to two to FOUR to three to FIVE CHAMPIONS AT ONCE. IS THERE ACTUALLY 20 CHAMPIONS IN A SINGLE MASTER NIGHTFALL ORDEAL?! You might as well throw the entire developer sandbox at us while you're at it! In all seriousness though, as a player who loves a good challenge, that was extremely fun to run with my friends. Only wiped once, but that last room was insane kind of like the arena. I just used Divinity on the Overload Minotaur in there while the Cabal Champions flat-out annihilated it from existence. Who needs to team-shoot with your teammates when you can just debuff a Champion for other enemies to exterminate? Now I've seen some ridiculous things. I've seen a Fallen Captain in Destiny 1 take out a Fallen Walker before like an idiot, but I've never seen such a massacre between PvE enemies in Destiny 2 before. You would not want that Overload Minotaur to be you. I am concerned about Grandmaster difficulty though. I have a feeling that the rewards just aren't going to be worth the effort, especially if they're just things that we've always had like our usual exotics. There are fine ways to grind for materials and exotics right now, but if players have to put up with that insane difficulty just to get things they could've grinded for more efficiently and faster by doing other difficulties multiple times, then the rewards just aren't going to cut it. Those Triumphs don't matter enough to put up with that kind of challenge. It could be a good opportunity to throw in some extra things like exclusive ornaments for gear or something. How about you make the difficulty have a high chance to drop Bright Engrams for players? Could be a temporary solution if necessary. A quick wrap-up: I enjoy the new sword mods. Passive Guard is a unique and lovely edition to the game and Enhanced Sword Scavenger is crazy for ammo. I'd be very happy to see these mods fully implemented into Armor 2.0 if there isn't some balance issue with them. And the Warden of Nothing Nightfall Ordeal this week is fun and crazy, but I'm left with worry about the Grandmaster difficulty and its rewards coming later in the month.
