A recent trend in music has formed where leakers obtain yet-to-be-released singles from popular artists and then organize groupbuys to leak them.
A groupbuy is typically a group on Discord, where the creator sets a goal of around $1000-$2000 for the fans of the artist to raise. Once the fans raise the money, the leaker then releases the song to the public.
While I don’t partake in the groupbuys, I do listen to all of the leaks from all my favorite artists as soon as I see them posted. I enjoy all of the music I’m able to enjoy early as a result of these leaks, but I’ve also noticed it has lead to countless album delays throughout the entire industry.
What are your thoughts on leaked music? Is it wrong of the fans to steal profits from the artist? Or is it -blam!- the music industry?

Edited by FdYAcsoyPKN83gLE: 1/16/2020 12:49:52 AMLeaked art is better than lost media. Though, what does bother me is that this can fall in the wrong hands.
Though I don’t get why you are saboteur sent from the CIA or something? Also, like, how could this hurt the band? Sounds more like their problem, not yours
Theft is theft. I don’t pirate games, either. I like knowing I’m paying my dues to daddy Gaben.

Don’t care, I listen to music by dead people

There was some Joji song that got leaked. I forget it's name though

Edited by michael: 1/14/2020 9:29:35 PMIf an artist makes a clearly insane song that people hear through snippets and they refuse to release it then it deserves to be leaked
Mission to the loot when
It’s theft simple as that. Imagine you made furniture for a living. If someone broke into your workshop, stole all your furniture and sold it to the highest bidder on e-bay, that person would rightly be sent to prison. Don’t see why it should be any different just because it’s music.

Basically theft of intellectual property, but that's just me.

It’s up to the person listening to decide. 99% of the time I’d rather wait.

We are pirates! We don’t even know what that means!
A recent trend in music has formed where leakers obtain yet-to-be-released singles from popular artists and then organize groupbuys to leak them.
That's called theft.
Is it wrong of the fans to steal profits from the artist? Or is it -blam!- the music industry?
It's wrong no matter what. No sugar coating the words or trying to rationalize that record companies are 'evil' changes that.

It's a bummer that people don't think about this from the other side. These artists - even the famous ones - are real people. They work hard on their projects and they're even more excited about creating it than we are about hearing it. Imagine working really hard on something and people just totally disregard your excitement over the release by leaking it, and worse yet, charging for it.
Is it wrong of the fans to steal profits from the artist?
We shouldn't need to ask this. Art takes a lot of hard work, creativity, passion and teamwork, and artists deserve to earn money from creating it.

Sounds like a dick move, but honestly what can we do?! Tell leakers “hey! Stop leaking stuff!” Sounds like a you problem for the artists.
