Is this against the EULA or ToS?

Hello there, I was browsing the interwebs as of recently and came across this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xz3E_enDPAk where it explains how to change the ingame voices to a certain language (in this case Japanese) but keep the original text language of your preference which in this case is English. I was wondering if this any safe to do? Considering it's an always online game I assume it verifies or checks for files at some interval whilst playing the game, so idk if it could detect "tampered" files (yes I know it's just a language package and nothing malicious but it's a modification) Can anyone vouch for this? It could be better if a Bungie rep could clear the waters in this case, since it's seems like something cool you can do. Cheers.

  • Yes it is against. Bungie has banned a few people for "tampering" with the game files that isnt Cvars. Another guy a while back had the same question as you, I believe the community and a mod replied with its better not to change it

    • Someone asked about this in the comments on that video. While I can't speak to moving those files around, I can say that all of the files that he used were official and already in the game (he did download them but they were automatically placed in the game files). He simply replaced only the voice files for characters, while keeping all text in English.

    • I just hope Bungie adds this as an option to change language and text independently in game so we don't have to so this.

      • I was actually able to recover the English audio files by deleting the Japanese audio files and select Verify Integrity. Now I have a back up of the English and Japanese audio files so I can switch the audio language at will (when Destiny 2 is closed of course).

      • I guess as long as you don't change the contents of the file (ie put wombo combo shouting in place of a we ran) you should be fine. But I don't know if you can change the contents of the file cause I assume it contains animation code for the mouth movement.

      • The only thing I DON'T RECOMMEND is doing this while Destiny 2 is running as it may be detected as a cheat.

      • I've done it and a friend of mine did it. The only thing is if you don't have all the files in one language or that one file is missing, the game will crash and quit until you add the remaining files or add updated files as they come. Considering he did this in October and he is still okay, it's safe to say this is okay. Because if it's not okay, we would all be banned within the hour of doing this. I mean, you get banned within like 40 minutes when running cheat engine.
