In hopes that someone in the community or perhaps a Dev might observe this post and have some form of influence on the issue. I would implore the team at Bungie responsible for matchmaking in the Crucible environment, specifically the competitive playlist, to reevaluate the metric that is being used to create fire-teams; specifically in the Survival: Freelance playlist.
As simply one players opinion (and I would welcome other input from the rest of you all that read this) the situation is quite bad. I was under the impression that Survival: Freelance was created to allow players that didn't want wind up in the untenable situation of solo queuing and winding up against a three stack, a way to play PvP and enjoy it. I don't think this has been successful, for while it does allow for guaranteed solo queuing, the result is often quite unbalanced. 90% of the matches I have been placed into have either resulted in 4-0 or 4-1 wins or losses with only a few being what I could call a "fair match" with both teams getting to match point before one gets the win. And while these matches take longer, I think it can be agreed that they are more enjoyable than the alternative where one team kicks the other back into the stone age round after round.
I would like the opportunity to play in a competitive match and know that I have the chance of winning as often as I do loosing with my competition having that same possibility with the only deciding factor being the ability of the teams in question. And I believe the game would benefit from this being the norm, rather than what we have to work with right now. With that in mind I don't think simply having match making based on "skill" alone is sufficient. Looking at the current sandbox of items and weapons that are available, there are certain load outs possible which make skill a non-issue. Multiple times I have been in a team of hunters and find myself going up against multiple titans with One Eyed Mask equipped and know that things are most likely going to go a certain way. I know this is just one example but there are many other load-outs, weapons, supers, and abilities that I fell can give an unbalanced advantage to one team over the other. And as always there is the problem of cheaters which I'm certain plays a part in the issue, but until the powers that be decides to take a more proactive role in eliminating them, there isn't much to be done in that area.
I honestly don't know if gear based match making would be a possibility. It would certainly require that the competitive PvP playlist become gear locked in a similar fashion to the nightfall. Again this is just one players opinion, and I would like to get your opinion and hear what other players think about the current situation in competitive PvP, especially with the possibility of some Trials/Trials related content in the future. And I would appreciate any other (realistic+constructive) ideas that anyone has on ways to improve the game mode going into the next season?
