What’s the point in Comp?

Not my first post about comp but still. The way glory currently works is: if you’re good at PvP, climbing to Legend is easy for you. If you’re not so great, it’s addicting at first but then punishing and can be very trying, mentally. Most of such players tend to accept that they’re not good enough to hit legend and give up in frustration. Either that or they push themselves to go forward and end up with a very unhealthy mindset (have witnessed this several times). So ultimately a very negative experience for the not-so-great player. If you’re pro, once you hit legend, what reason do you have to play comp in that season anymore? Sure you might still play cos you enjoy it, but once you’ve unlocked your unbroken title, do you even really need to go on in seasons after that? Wouldn’t it be better for everyone if they made comp less punishing and offer more reason to play? Sure, make it a grind, but not a highly regressive one for lesser players. Maybe give us a prestige-like system where once you’ve hit legend and reset, you’re glory rank goes into a tier 2 and you unlock further rewards like shaders, emblems and armour sets. Think it would be a great way to expand PvP and make it more appealing for everyone.

  • There is no reason . However when most other game modes are quite shitty and worse than comp why not stay there for crucible ?

    • yeep. this points loss system is all bad. seems that once you hit your "true skill" (whatever that means) you can only progress with win streaks. individual wins are pointless. trading wins for 10 matches takes takes away 100 points and all motivation to play the mode. Comp. wins should be worth +25 and add 5 for each consecutive win. lower tier players that trade wins would need 220 wins for Glory. top tier would need less if there stringing wins together.

    • I should start off saying I'm primarily a PVE person. But with all the recent nerfs to PVE and the cost to upgrade weapons armor etc. to setup decent loadouts I find myself not playing too much of it. PVP in general needs rewards and a reason to play. I would be playing right now, but there is absolutely no reason. Why there are no upgrade materials or pinnacle drops in PVP is beyond me. No new weapons or perks. I've been knocking out triumphs while I'm playing, but without rewards even they seem like a waste of time. I'm not great, but I made it to Legend, thanks to the solo queue. I would have never cared enough to form a team to get to legend. Comp has it's ups and downs, but it's prolly the thing I've enjoyed most this season. I wonder if having the ranks be more of a bragging right than a requirement? I liked the fact that most people are using a hand cannon for special due to the pinnacle weapons. I've won or almost won matches with an AFK teammate or 2v3. In any "PVP" list more people equal a better experience. When population levels are low, matchmkaing takes forever and you face people you should never have to face. I've also enjoyed rumble, it's crazy when you have 5 people all within a couple of points.

    • You bring up some very good points but there are players who just enjoy playing comp in the lower ranks because it’s not as sweaty as quick play (aka sweat play) where you are forced to run meta weapons in some cases to compete with other players who are using meta weapons. Personally I’m not a top tier pvp player but my friend tells me he enjoys comp more than quick play because it’s not overcrowded like quick play. I do agree with him in some cases as most of the base game maps were not made for 6v6.
