Do you even have a crucible team at Bungie? (Edit)

If so, what are they doing all day? Regrettably, I hopped into Iron Banner, and it's nothing but shotguns. Literally nothing but shotguns. Oh and Recluse. [i]Sorry[/i]. Recluse and shotguns. That's it. There's only any diversity in the heavy slot. I hear Erentil is supposed to be a problem but I can't really see it myself. Looks like shotguns need a massive range nerf if anything. And why is damage referee still a thing? Crucible is just all kinds of messed up. I thought Crucible was getting an update, but it's as terrible as it always was, possibly worse. Did I miss something? Edit: I didn't really say I [i]wanted[/i] a shotgun range nerf.. I was just, honestly, venting a bit of frustration. I'll put my response to Cozmo here too, as I may not be screaming into the void for once. In short, I feel like Bungie should embrace a new design philosophy for PvP. Destiny as a premise doesn't jive well with the notion of balance, you know? That doesn't need to be a bad thing. PvP could be amazing. But it's never, ever going to be a balanced esports shooter. They should just focus a lot more on fun factor. Trying to balance something like Destiny is a hopeless effort. Not gonna happen. That's why Trials didn't work out. That's why Trials was a bad idea. All Trials did was force a need for balance that doesn't belong in a game like Destiny. At other end of it, we have Mayhem, where the idea of balance is completely neglected. I would like to see a middle ground that focuses on fun factor and allows diversity in load outs. The easiest way to push forward is bigger maps and more dynamic game modes. Rift, was a good example. There was a "frontline" of sorts to try and keep control of, and eventually there's a shift in momentum that required you to relocate and respond either offensively or defensively depending on how well the "frontline" scenario played out for your team. That is much closer to where Destiny PvP needs to be than anything we have today, imo. Combined Arms too. Huge maps with wide open areas combined with tight interiors. Nowadays it's just cookie-cutter playlists on small maps that only seem to emphasize the flaws with Destiny rather than its strengths. Oh well, didn't turn out that short I guess, but my thoughts just run away sometimes.

  • Why are you antagonizing the people seeking a working "Balance", calling for shotguns to be nerfed? It doesn't appear that you have played in the competitive playlist since May. That leads one to believe you have not forced yourself to be good with this weapon you are calling for a nerf to range for. As a result, you don't understand any of the appropriate countermeasures to it. Furthermore you see no issue with Erentil... But shotgun range is the issue. Why did this complaint even warrant a response?

  • Bro. Your suggestions suck. You don't play PvP that much is obvious. It's definitely not shotguns and recluse only. That might be what killed you most. Keep your cry baby opinions to yourself next time. Maybe play more than a few games before venting too.

    • "Fun Factor" is such a subjective term. What you think is "fun" isn't necessarily fun for someone else. Maybe some people think that a balanced game is what is fun for them. Maybe some think Mayhem is fun. You cant be so overly generalized and expect any one to know what you're talking about.

      • The problem with shotguns is less about their effective range as much as it is the ease, flexibility, accessibility, and spam-friendliness of mobility. That, combined with the maps made with few wide open spaces and cover littered about everywhere, and it’s pretty easy to close the distance between you and someone else. All special weapons need to be more situational than they currently are. Not just shotguns. Shotguns should be harder to be mobile with, and more punishing to favor too heavily. Backup Plan shouldn’t be on anything but Plan C, and Fusion Rifles in general should be projectile weapons with spread and travel time (like in D1). Sniper Rifles shouldn’t roll with Opening Shot and have exceptionally low zoom. That defeats the entire purpose of what they’re meant for. In general, special weapons are cheap kills. Ammo for them is also too abundant. But they especially need to stop giving people tools easily available to remove what few downsides they have.

      • Shotguns have always been a part of PvP, and quite prominently. Same with HCs before the range nerf. You can learn to outplay shotgun apes or blast them with a fusion before they get close enough. They aren't hard to counter in most cases

        You know why players here want erentil nerfed? It’s pretty easy actually. They’re doing fine or whatever and then they run into a player using erentil and get violated. Then they come into this forum saying that’s all they run into and how it needs to get nerfed. Played about 15 iron banner games today and ran into erentil ONCE. It just shows you how much players on here lie to get things nerfed.

        • My main knock on pvp is I swear I’m shooting blanks, and the map rotation. I hate how I can’t shoot that well while airborne, even tho I’m perfectly aiming at my target

            Metas change. The playerbase does this in part towards the beginning of a sandbox update, but it's Bungie's job to lay the groundwork for the community. The problem is that lately Bungie hasn't been the best at... well... doing that. Luna and Not Forgotten were the meta for right around 8 months, dominating the stat charts when compared to other weapons. And now recluse has been running wild for quite a while now, in both PvE and PvP. That's the problem with these pinnacle weapons in my mind. Before, the community would choose the meta from a pool of "normal" weapons. Bungie likely had an idea what might be meta, but they didn't enforce anything. Pinnacle weapons decide the meta for the community. I have no doubt that when Bungie made Luna/Not Forgotten, they knew it would be meta. A laser stable, ranged handcannon with a ttk far faster than any other, with the Last Word being the exception. The same goes for recluse. Any kill at all turns the gun into an absolute shredding machine, in PvE and PvP. Bungie deciding the meta wouldn't be so bad if the meta rotated frequently, but they seem content with locking down the meta for months at a time. These pinnacle weapons are so effective that they straight up nullify other weapons that are introduced. I hope Bungie didn't intend on nearly any of their new weapons to be viable in PvE, because recluse from season of the drifter is still better than all of them. I often hear people say "I earned my pinnacle pvp weapon, I'm gonna use it in pvp". Which is absolutely correct, the player has every right to use what gear they've earned. If they want to limit themself to a single loadout for months on end, they absolutely can. And many do. And it has led to some of the most stale gameplay I've ever seen from this franchise. I don't blame the player for this, they're just making the best of a flawed system. Anyway that's just my 2 cents.

            • Very clever. Make a post Bungie will more than likely read but actually make 95% of it crying about shotguns and nothing about the title subject. Im so tired of the destiny communiry being full of complaining morons that have zero skill at the game. Stop being like everyone else, crying and complaining about things you actually have some control over and can counter but is simply too lazy and or dumb to do it. The crucible became stale and slowpaced after they nerfed shottys for the third damn time in D1. Youre probably salty because you dont have the trigger finger or reflexes to wield a shotgun... A good counter to a shotgun is another shotgun, get good maybe?

            • i think this is just a representation of your high stats you are in a league where meta weapons are pretty much the go to loadout. when i play i have a LOT of diversity and different weapons.. in fact i havent seen many shotguns at all. since i am less high on my K/D than you, then i can point out that you are playingin a different league than me.. so in your league, even super tiny differences are having a huge impact. so you will find way more scuff controller and meta weapons than me.. and i am not even mad at it, since I (eg. ME) would not want to go against those meta players. since i am not that good and i dont want to play against the likes of you.. i am not there.. and i dont want to get fed to the dogs.. currently i am having a good time in crucible and i LOVE the matchmaking settings as of now,. nice matches and nice balance and enemies that are still doing ,mistakes and miss from time to time compared to pre shadowkeep where i had to go against mister hunter chickendance nevermiss NF, LH, MT, RC guys.. =)

            • U can counter shotguns in a variety of ways It's ur fault for being immobile and easy to read fyi Fusions can't be countered all the time given their quick charge and ohk range/damage Look at the sandbox, not ur incompetence Shotguns are a huuge pain true, but only because close range options are weak and inconsistent

              • Just use Cerberus. I was piling bodies in my last few games earlier. This is a hard shotgun counter and even out plays recluse a lot of the times. Ever since that gun got its catalyst, it’s become my pvp go to.

                • Good shotguns are too easy to use. Frankly non slug shotguns shouldn't roll with range perks at all. If you want range use a slug shotgun.

                    • All I am seeing is the damn Recluse. Back up Plan Fusion rifles deal with shotgun rushers. Everyone uses Erentil but Prolieum, Epicurean and Main Ingredient roll with Back up Plan and can do the business, too. Some shotguns are outliers and need a one meter range nerf, IMO. This has been a bone of contention for a very long time!

                        • Now the quest is the problem. For the 4th and final step you need SMG kills. 5th step is bugged which should be grenade launcher kills. That's why you now see a lot of Recluses. I must say I always play sniper on big maps and shotty on short maps. Think on short maps I will change to Recluse now. Feels way more consistent than these unreliable shotguns. The question on if Bungie has a crucible team? Not the employees I think. When you can earn the emblem to earn the special defeat a Bungie team they always ask streamers. Else the emblem would be too easy to get. It would be good if they played more crucible themselves to find out our struggles.
