Genuine question: Why not separate PvP/PvE stats?

I think it's fairly apparent by now that it is impossible to make something balanced in both PvP and PvE. They are simply two too different mediums, and thus incompatible with each other, I think. On a management level this could be huge, so I understand if it would just require too much resources. But giving items separate (but somewhat similar) stats for PvP and PvE that better suit their respective mediums would allow you to tweak one side without breaking the other. What do you think?

  • Why just stats why not separate it fully, I want to play this game 100% PVE and never have to go into crucible for anything. I can only hope they separate pve and pvp fully in D3.

  • Because reasons...PvP will always hold the PvE portion of the game back.

  • The main reason is that they want the experience to be uniform. Get a cool/good gun in Crucible? Take it to Mars, kill some aliens with it. Found a cool gun while out killing aliens? Give it a try against Guardians. If there were separate stats, then a gun could perform DRASRICALLY different in PvE Vs PvP, which is confusing and discouraging to the player

    • Sorry what are you all talking about on this thread? Pvp and pve weapons are already balanced separately. See how rampage, kill clip, and other damage perks give different percentages in Pvp and pve, plus precision damage works differently as well. Weird.

      • 3 simple reasons 1. Bungie is cheap 2. Potential confusion going back and forth 3. Useless Spaghetti code makes it difficult and time consuming to program in the game

      • Not separating the balancing is cheaper for Bungie. The same can be said with the current peer to peer connection.

      • For somethings, i thought they can balance seperately. Telesto was nerfed in PVP but buffed in PVE.

To answer your question: Shaxx said no. He likes the carnage caused by metas and routinely drinks the salty tears split in the Crucible, as it is the only way to soothe his throat as he bellows on the comms. It's also why Zavala is bored and grumpy, because he cares about our weapon efficiency in the field being continually weakened due to PvP but won't stand up to Shaxx. Ok, joking aside, PvP should've had an entirely separate arsenal of weaponry/gear/exotics from the very beginning. Like you and many others have said before, both mediums contrast too much to give an enjoyable experience without often ruining one or another. Now it's not impossible to try to balance the weapons in both gamemodes, but it takes a lot of dedication and consideration to keep them balanced yet fun in both gamemodes. In the game's current state, there's very few options aside from a game-level overhaul of the weapons that'd balance the gamemodes. Practically any major change will upset at least one side of the community, likely for legitimate reasons.

          • Everyone has wanted PvP separated from PvE for 5 years now. I doubt it will ever happen because the PvP side would suffer due to extremely small player numbers and Bungie is too lazy to balance both separately. It’s easier to just let Crucible be the broken piece of shit it’s always been and just tie quests and milestones to it to lure players in so at least the playlists fill up.

            • I think it's pointless to have crucible armor and weapons when any armor stats don't change going from pve to pvp. Every -blam!-ing game does it but bungie is too incompetent

            • Bungie is in way too deep with the code base at this point. Separating PvP and PvE in this way would require a pretty substantial overhaul of the game and now without a publisher, they're probably pinching pennies more so than before. Yeah, separated PvP and PvE is the ideal way to go, but it's too late at this point I think.

            • Yep trust me it’s been said a lot and the reply is just stupid “we want the game to play the same way in pve and pvp “ but as we all know it doesn’t work remotely the same so please bungie stop fooling yourself and for the future maybe destiny 3 I dunno split the modes so they don’t use the same balance cause right now it is a stupid juggling act and one side always gets screwed I like this game I really do but I don’t get why after destiny 1 this was not already addressed with all the nerfs that happened that pretty much killed guns and abilities that were fine in pve but then became less then useless cause they were nerfed into oblivion for pvp even when they were clearly not designed for pvp why did bungie not just locked them to pve only use like the famous vex mytho it was an amazing gun that was designed to be a pve monster but that made it way to unbalanced for pvp and so the stupid juggling act started 🙄cmon bungie

PVP should have an arcade type mode where anything goes, even have mayhem as a permanent playlist within it, where the devs don't have to worry about balance. then a competitive mode where things like certain exotics and even certain perks are deactivated or not allowed. possibly even give players set load outs to choose from with a handful of weapons with set perks and what not. (with the option to create a custom load out using the weapons available)

              • Because they are oblivious to the obvious and if they did at this point then their little pride would shatter. They aren’t humble enough to go ‘you know what? We muffed up and are gonna do what is logical and you have been asking for’. It wouldn’t be too hard to have a toggle for each weapon that flips between pvp and pve events. That way they can make fine adjustments without waiting on massive updates every few months and sometimes even do stealth updates live. The key to success is literally there. The ego is strong

              • Totally possible. They are already maintaining two sets of stats console/controller vs m&k/PC.

              • IMO PvP should have its own loot entirely. Weapons, Gear, mods, even sub-class perks should be different.

              • If content is too hard for bungie to make, how could you expect them to do a good job with that idea?

              • They’ve discussed this before. Bungie wants the game to feel fairly consistent at all times and separating stats doesn’t mesh with that philosophy. I’m not saying I agree with that philosophy but that’s the answer.

              • They said somewhere that they don’t want a gun to feel like one thing in PvP, and have it do another thing in PvE.

                • part of the reason, is because bungie wants your gear to feel the same no matter where you play. That was one of the their original core visions, play with anything anywhere. Hard to say how weird to would feel without experiencing it, if say your exotic weapon played completely differently depending on the game mode.
