Destiny 1 Veteran Returning from the Old Era

I am a player who played in Destiny 1 and decided to return on the Shadowkeep release date. I learned about the cross save. I am worried about my character not making the jump from Xbox Destiny 1 to the PC Destiny 2 Shadowkeep with out purchasing it twice. What if I 1. Get the New Light on xbox hoping my character transfers. 2. Establish its existence in the game. 3. Cross save him on to the Pc while still getting the pre-order of Shadowkeep. I think i will have to create a new temp character for the Pc and then transfer old one, or i can just transfer right over skipping the new character. The game and character have emotional meaning to me. If i can't get my old Titan, i may just have to start a new journey with a new character or be a lonely soul who stays in the past as everyone moves on to the future and watch over them as they play.

So... the one time transfer for D1 ended a long time ago. So you will need to make a new Guardian im afraid. You would still need to buy destiny 2, in order to play it on PC, with Shadowkeep. your xbox account would be able to play it via New Light but if you do, anything in forsaken or shadowkeep will be grayed out unless you buy it for that console. New light isn't a way to play for free on all console its just allows you to join in base stuff and crucible.
