Endgame - too much forced gameplay content

Am I the only one feeling being forced to play with exactly defined weapons, quests, missions, bounties, raids...? As I remember my good old MMO endgame days were about being able to be free of choice what you play, where you play, when you play, where you explore.. doing the stuff in the game that actually makes fun for yourself. And with that, still get rewards, just by playing. I feel being forced to play the stuff I have to, not the stuff I want to. A certain amount of this is ok, but in destiny 2 there is waaaaaaay too much forced gameplay and you have to repeat it (in most cases) 3 times. Once you are done with that forced gameplay you are also done playing the game, every day. Do you feel the same way?

Won't be completing the solstice armor set because it requires PvP, unless I'm misinterpreting the requirements. I know others like the PvP in the game, or can at least tolerate it, but it is one of the last games I'd ever play for PvP content. Often feels like the game's trying to play me more than I'm playing the game. Even little things such as "use X weapon class on Y planet", when I don't even have said weapon class in my inventory I really just don't like or care how the guns feel. Maybe I'm just too picky, but why not be? Games or any form of entertainment are supposed to be fun, and if you are not having fun, you are wasting your time.

      • No sire you are not the only one feeling like that. Game feels more like a job then a way to enjoy your free time. Its fekr flexed from the start and in all the wrong ways. If they want people to play and grind for all these junk. Let's face it come Sept most things will be. Weapons they make you work like crazy for get nerfed a month or 2 later. Only to never really get used agein. They keep recycling content. Giving bounties with crazy high ask. .. making the price of everything in game super high speed your always broke. Your forced to rerun the same ollllllld content. You been runing for 2 years. With what one new area? I feel like if they actually provided second patrol zone on all the old planets. The size of say the plauge lands. Or if they updated all the planets 5 to 6 months in with updated patrol zones. Like they do in a mmo. New areas just unlock with harder enemies and newandscapes . 5 months in let alone a year or two people are sick of runing the same areas day in and out. Then these so called events force you to... you cant take a break cause if you dont run them you dont get the armor or weapons. That's not how you incentivise. If they gave us new strikes and patrol areas. Not just one... but all the planets. People would not mind grinding out bounties. Not every body is into pvp or gambit. Some of us just wanna relax and explore. Give people the more pve focused options. Let them pick there path to gear. But above all provide new content so people are not board runing around areas they have done 1000 to 4000 hrs in. THE grind even in Sept. No matter how big the moon is it's one planet. We are still gonna be forced to grind out bounties to strikes and patrol on the rest of the planets we have had for 2 years now. Why not simple say here is a new area, and we are gonna update all the old areas add some land and a few surprises. That would keep people alot happier then seasons. With this laser focused none sense content. I'm not even a big pvp guy but when was the last time we got new pvp maps?? Strikes ect. Come on.

The community has been complaining about this for over a year now. Bungie went from a philosophy in Y3 of D1 where they rewarded the player for simply playing the game....and playing the parts fo the game they enjoyed..... ....to a philosophy in "Warmind" where loot and access to progression was used as a means to twist people's arms into playing the "entire" game....and punishing you (by withholding limited progression opportunities) if you failed to comply. This attitude needs to go away. Bungie needs to stop trying to micromanage the player, and control player choices. If they want the whole game played....then they need to make the game **enjoyable** and **rewarding**. Pressuring a player to interact with your game in ways that they dont' enjoy is a good way to create a RESENTFUL player. One who eventually burns out...and quits your game...

        • I think overall I’m just bored of stuff I’ve been doing for two years. Haven’t been back in Menagerie since the chest farm was removed. Tried Reckoning tier 2 twice and have never gone back. Activities are either old/boring or don’t function well enough to bother playing, especially from a time/reward standpoint. You can get f’d if you think I’m grinding out 5 weeks of Escalation Protocol again for armor 2.0

          • It's the hidden stuff I dislike... take BadJuJu and the tribute hall, made every tribute just to find out there are more tributes not listed anywhere ( except online) you need to max out your tributes.... I don't mind puzzles but things like this shouldn't be puzzles.

            • It's annoying when some people say "you are not forced to do anything" using that as an excuse knowing how the game is designed vs D1 to argue post like this for the sake of arguing. D1 did not have anywhere near as many bounties Power engrams were not a thing to level up Vendors were not just used as bounty place holders, you were able to trade with them There wasn't anywhere near as many quests that are deliberately designed to be an over grind The cost to purchase certain items was not overdone like Spider and the Tribute Hall and Tess Bungie wasn't so stingy about offering material especially now knowing they reduced the amount you can acquire this last 2 months Catalysts was not a thing because there was no "need" for them The list goes on, so when some say that there isn't a form of focused play, you would be incorrect.

                • 100% agree. Yes, the exotic grinds "give us something to do," but every single exotic grind feels like it came out of a formula: grind ___ kills with ____ element or weapon class in ____ game type. I have zero incentive to finish half of the remaining exotic quests I have because of this forced time consumption formula. I don't think a single one of my friends have even bothered STARTING some quests because "the gun is useless in pvp/pve so it isn't worth the time." Smh, they just need to put less forced grinding in the game. Before, D2 was too easy to get what you want and now it's just a huge time investment.

Freedom is not what the Devs at bungie want you to have... It's their way or the highway. It would seem, most of the people here feel the same way as well

                      • Right. The way quests are structured right now, by the end of them, they leave you never wanting to play the mode you had to play to get them again. That's not a very good system if by the end your final thought is "thank goodness it's over or I never have to do that again".

What it sounds like you're experiencing is the community's '1 way works, so stick to it' mentality that has happened since d1. When the community finds a way that works, they stick to it and dont deviate from it until another way is introduced (by a popular streamer/youtuber) cause of a new weapon and/or patch. In that case, yea, that sucks cause people dont try things out in the game and pretty much let others play the game for them.
