THIS IS A VERY EARLY CONCEPT
I was thinking about a raid boss that would deny raid teams the chance to melt it. How? The team is constantly broken up and never shoots the boss as a team.
Each player enters the arena from their own spot, similar to the plates that activate the Riven encounter. Rather than meeting up, each player is dispensed into their own room ALONE. The walls are clear and the boss is in the center of the arena (a large Vex Hydra would be best; stationary and the Vex have clear walls like in the Pyramidion). A random player is chosen to complete a simple mechanic to start the encounter (like carrying placing arc charge). They then have their front wall open to face the boss. They can do damage to a point, but the boss will go immune pretty early on (maybe every 5% health). The other players must clear ads and then complete another simple mechanic (like shooting oracles around their room). Once all 5 other players have done this, the boss chooses a random player to open their front wall and begin the same room cycle.
WIPE MECHANIC: The boss gives each cycle a timer, and if the chosen player hasn’t dealt enough damage and/or everyone else hasn’t completed their mechanic in time, the boss wipes the team.
This design would:
-spread out damage to avoid one big damage section
-keep players from melting with a Tractor Cannon or Outbreaks
-be easy to learn but require everyone to play a part
Bungie, I give you full rights to this idea. Seriously, I’d love to play this!
-
I say 2 people per room so that its not a wipe if he dies and no immune mechanic just a timer on dps phase
-
I liked to see more raid bosses like this With the exception of ORYX every raid boss can me melted! KF was the only raid that require you to do the mechanics and we need like this

Here's some raid boss ideas I came up with back when Bungie announced all the weapon nerfs before Opulence... https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/252182501?page=0&sort=0&showBanned=0&path=0

Would be better if one player got a buff at a time that allowed them to damage the boss. 2 support player to help clear ads attacking the buffed player and help give further damage buffs like wells etc.. The other 3 would be working on puzzle needed to drop the bosses shield. Once a person has a buff you get a debuff so you cant get it again. Once all 6 players had a chance at damage and the boss isnt defeated it's a wipe. If enough damage is dealt all 6 players need to shoot for a final stand

My thought is that it absolutely kills teamwork. I think a raid should be a mix between being on your game individually and working together and being synergistic. This seems like a watered down and even more divided version of the Crown last encounter. No offense, or anything, just my general thoughts.

It just sounds really.... boring.
-
It's okay. But really, all I want is a boss fight that has zero mechanics. Just straight up, DPSing a big thicc boy
-
Here's another idea! Although probably not good but hey it's fun to brain storm some ideas. 6 split into teams of 2 3 in outer realm, 3 in boss room 3 in outer realm kill ads / major to get different relics then run through a puzzle course with 3 sections unlocked only by communicating with your partner on the otherside 3 in boss room kills ads and major to unlock some puzzle mechanics to solve, and providing info for the other team to get through each part Once relic holder gets through, its damage phase. boss has 3 different sections, with each own individual health bar, that can only be damage by that specific relic team Repeat steps above, but players that were on the outside realm will now swap with players in boss room and the puzzle course changes with snipers, now shooting at you while traversing the course. Boss team will be able to provide you cover by completing a mechanic.

Wow ummm no.... hard pass... doesn’t sound fun at all my dude.....

Why would you want the encounter to take longer? Make it hard to be meltable, but possible to do it very quickly. Don’t ruin speedrunning in raids or you get a raid as bad as EoW.

Edited by Romulus: 6/24/2019 2:07:39 AMChange it to 2 rooms, each with a team of 3 assigned based on class and subclass choice and make it a giant screen or an ogre version of an exploding thrall. Make the encounter involve keeping the boss alive until you can lower or raise its cage out of the room.

No thanks, that sounds like it would take far to long and become tedious very quickly. Plus there is the issue of relying on every single individual player, which would make especially teaching the encounter a straight up nightmare. On top of all of that it would make a fair number of weapons, gear, and abilities totally worthless for the entire encounter. It also wouldn't really allow anyone to help eachother which would essentially negate a key part of raids in general, team work. At that point having a team doesn't really seem like it would have much of a point, give the boss 1/6th of its health and it is a solo encounter.

A raid boss that doesnt need killing like a seige engine type of encounter where we have to lure a huge servitor into a junk yard to crush it with a car crusher or something so players would run like in a maze rather than just pure gunplay
-
I mean it’s cool, but raids are about team play.
-
I’m still waiting for a mechanic where you have to sacrifice a teammate or something, could easily be a hive type raid
-
one problem with this that I see now raid carries for people who have done a raid also with the wipe mechanic if a person in your Fireteam dies you will guarantee a wipe for to long of guardian down plus day one would be a nightmare to even attempt
-
I'd like it honestly
-
I’ve always wanted a raid encounter where everyone is doing their own thing. Sure, it’s interesting having to work together as a team, but it would be interesting having everyone carry out their own separate tasks to take down a boss.

I can do 12 million damage to Galhran by my self. For people who aren’t garbage at this game still still wouldn’t be hard to completely melt
