Clan Admin needs promotion due to founder vacancy
Is there a way to remove a clan founder, or even add another from the admin pool? I am a clan admin, returning after a few months off and I want to get the old clan rolling again. The clan founder hasn't been on in a while and I need the ability to promote new admins to get the clan started again. Ideally I would prefer an option that keeps the old clan founder in the clan as I have no issue with him, and who knows maybe he will come back eventually.
Yes I know I could leave and create a new one, but I would much prefer to keep the old clan name and history.

Bungie's policy is to not mess or change Founder status or promote others to Founder or Admin within clans. Only the Founder can promote another admin to Founder. The alternative is, as you said, create a new one and move people, but yes, sadly, you'd lose the name.
